Guest guest
Hi . I don't know what you ultimately decided to do, regarding your children, but I'm surprised to hear that your GI doctor didn't immediately consult with your pediatrician to order the antibody (perhaps also the genetic) blood tests. This was among the first things I was told to do after my diagnosis a month ago. My children have already been tested - celiac free, thank goodness. (One is in the clear - no genetic markers; the other has one of the genetic markers, but perhaps will never get it or won't until much much older... still, nice to know that we should monitor for celiac for one and not the other). Your own siblings and parents should be tested, as well. Guest guest
Sorry, I wasn't clear in my post. I *did* know that my kids would need the antibody test, but my questions for my GI doc had more to do with the risk/benefit of getting them scoped if the screening was positive. (My 5-yr-old ended up with a negative screen, and my under-2-yr-old's screen was inconclusive, so we will retest in 6 months to a year, and probably add the genetic test as well. If he is positive we'll cross the endoscopy bridge then, much as I hate to think of it.) Also, since my dx my mom and sister have had the antibody test, both turned out positive and endoscopies are scheduled. We're badgering other family members to get screened. > > Hi .
