Guest guest
How long is one supposed to take the amoxicillin, according to the directions? Do you risk building up resistance if you discontinue early? Interestingly (another subject, unrelated to CD), "flapping" is sometimes a symptom of a certain kind of liver damage. It doesn't sound as if this relates to your son's condition, but it caught my attention. Just interesting, nothing more. H. Guest guest
Hi, This link may help you find a gluten free antibiotic. It seems as if the source, ie company producing the antibiotic plays a big part in whether it is gluten free or not. I hope your son starts feeling better. http://homepage.mac.com/sholland/celiac/GFmedlist.pdf Shyra --- lily3031 <lily3031@...> wrote: > Hello all.. > > Amoxicillin was prescribed by my pediatrician for my > sons pink eye > and ear infection. it dawned on me that it might > have gluten in it, > but it's just one thing after the other and I am > desperate for his > ear infections to clear up. Guest guest
There is a brand of amox. that is GF; we used it when my little guy had a neverending ear infection this past winter. Teva is the manufacturer, I believe. I'm not finding info about it being CF or not, but my 15mo isn't exactly helping me search. Maybe your dr would call in a new script for the last 3 days so you could get him on the GF one at least? Anyway, when my little guy was sick, we did garlic oil in the ears and chiropractic care, but he couldn't shake the infection until we did the amox. The pharmacist at our walgreens was great about checking for us and they put a gluten free note in his records for any future prescriptions. Here's a list: http://www.glutenfreedrugs.com/list.htm I hope you're able to find something that works, as that all sounds really frustrating. - On Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 11:39 AM, lily3031 <lily3031@...> wrote: > > > > > > > Hello all.. > > Amoxicillin was prescribed by my pediatrician for my sons pink eye > and ear infection. it dawned on me that it might have gluten in it, > but it's just one thing after the other and I am desperate for his > ear infections to clear up. Guest guest
I had a sinus infection a couple of years ago and had an allergic reaction to the amox. after a few days so they switched me to something else. Sorry I can't find what it was anywhere in the medicine cabinet but if I do find it I will let you know. Maybe the gf alternatives will work for you anyway. Guest guest
I was prescribed amoxycillin seven years ago for my first and only sinus infection. I was told later that it may have been the trigger for another autoimmune disease that is life-long, extremely serious, very definitely life-threatening. Or -- it may not have been. H. Guest guest
Just a guess - maybe it was sulfa? That's a med used for sinus infections (though I don't know if it's gf).
