I went to 99 Bottles on Walnut Ave (down town santa cruz) this past Sunday and they had

Green’s “Discovery” ale. I have never and would never

eat there, but if you’re looking for a beer, they have it! It was a

nice surprise to be able to order something there besides wine. It was $8

for the big bottle, that’s the only way it came.

’s Valley

Jia’Tella’s Cambodian food in (it’s

the Granite Creek exit off the 17) they serve Bard’s

Downtown Santa Cruz:

La Vie on Front street

Mobo Sushi between Front and River next to

Trader Joe’s (they have Wheat Free Tamari)

New Leaf Grocery Store – on Pacifc

Trader Joe’s – on Front Street

Monterey:

I’ve never been, but someone posted “Estebans”

and said they serve GF bread.

Good Luck!

if anyone had any recommendation for restaurants for eating GF in the

Santa Cruz and Monterey areas?

Thanks for the tip. I used to go to 99 Bottles on a regular basis, but for obvious reasons have stayed a way the past few years. I can't wait to go to a bar and actually order a beer!

It was fantastic!  When I first moved here

I thought if any place would have GF beer it’d be 99, but I was wrong and asked

them about a year and ½ ago to consider it and hadn’t been back.  A coworker of

mine told me they had GF beer and I assumed it was Red Bridge,

I was pleasantly surprised to see “Green’s” up on the chalk board!  Last I heard

you can only get it in Walnut Creek BevMo.  I’m currently working on getting

The Poet & The Patriot to carry it, I’ve been in 3x since I first requested

in, I think the owner now knows im serious!

Ah the Poet, another place I miss. I'll be sure to give a little nudge myself. I've been waiting to try Green's but haven't made it to a BevMo that stocks it. It would be interesting to see if we could get 99 Bottles or the Poet to carry Redbridge. I'd imagine it'd be considerably cheaper, although I'll gladly pay for Greens!

Poet carry’s budwiser products, so that’s

the one they’d most likely get. The owner actually heard of and had tried New

Grist (not realizing it’s marketed for the celiac community) and made a face

and said, sorry you have to drink that! I said there are others out there that

are better. Next time I might just show up with a 6 pack to get the ball

rolling!

I'd have to agree with the owner. I had a hard time with New Grist as well. I've had some success with the six pack strategy before. It seemed to work at Jia Tella's!

It certainly doesn't hurt that the former s Valley Chief of Police has Celiac. Most of the stores are fairly well stocked, mostly due to his efforts :-)

When in Monterey check out Estebans, they are a tapas bar and will have

gluten free bread on hand. They are always accommodating and make a

great burger on the gf bread. They have a nice outdoor patio with a

large fireplace. They are located on Munras Ave. in the Casa Munras

hotel.

The other place I love is in Pacific Grove and is call Central Ave.

Bakery. They offer g.f. pizzas, sandwiches, and make the absolute best

carrot cake. You could pick up a nice lunch and take down to lovers

point and enjoy the ocean within a few minutes away.

There is also a large Whole Foods if you need supplies and also

Chipotle. These are both in the Del Monte shopping center on Munras

ave off the Hwy 1 exit.

Have a nice trip!!

Thank you everyone for all of the restaurant/bar/shopping suggestions!

I am looking forward to checking some of these places out, and I am

very excited to have a beer.

, the B & B is called The Jewel Box Bed and Breakfast in Capitola.

I can post a review when I get back.
