My husband is starting a new job in the Embarcadero in San Francisco. He has

Celiacs.

Unfortunately, he does not speak up at restaurants or at work. At his current

job they will

have meetings and serve only sandwiches! Or they would go to business

meetings/lunches to

places that were clueless I can't stand IT! Anyway, I want to compile a list for

him of Gluten

friendly places he can eat at around the Embarcadero ( 4th st). Any

ideas/suggestions are

appreciated.

Embarcadero Center area has many high end restaurants whose chefs are probably acquainted with celiac disease or the words, 'gluten intolerance.' Unfortunately, until your husband learns to speak up and trust that his new employer want him as healthy as possible, he will have a difficult time. Maybe he should just bring his lunch to work.

Really...people are friendly and helpful. He shouldn't automatically assume that his employer will think any less of him. I bet there are others with food allergies. His embarassment will make him sick as he'll feel obligated to eat non-GF food, which, of course, may force him to go home early or miss days of work. No employer wants a sick employee.

Good luck.

I think there is a San Francisco Soup Company in the area. I have never eaten there, but if I remember correctly they are really good about listing the ingredients and have many gluten free options. San Francisco Soup Company is great, I eat there at least once a week

and check their website www.sfsoupco.com to see which soups are served

everyday and ones that are GF are marked with a G.

Osha Thai is on 2nd, I have eaten there many times (a good place for

business lunches but a bit loud). Mixt Greens people are very friendly

and will work with you in making a salad GF, but I do have a hard time

trying to figure out which dressing is GF.

There is a Whole Foods in 4th (I believe but not sure how far down

4th). I have also had lunches at quite a few restaurants in the area

and they are always very accommodating. I usually will take a few

pieces of bread or a roll along though too.
