I got a reply back from Nestles regarding butter fingers.

Dear Mr. Morley,

Thank you for contacting Nestlé® Butterfinger® .

Nestlé Butterfinger's do not contain any Gluten. However the Giant 5oz

Butterfinger does contain Gluten.

Labeling regulations require that if any of the eight recognized known

allergens, such as gluten, are in the product, they must be listed in

the ingredient statement. We always list the allergen by its common name.

Additionally, our factories, that use any of the recognized allergens as

an ingredient, take all precautions to avoid cross contact of products

that do not contain them. We always add a cautionary statement at the

end of our packaging ingredient listing if a product is made on the same

line or factory of those products containing a recognized allergen. It

is recommended that you always check the label before purchasing a product.

I have included a link to our gluten free list at the end of this email

that I hope you will find helpful.

We appreciate your interest and hope you will visit our website often

for the latest information on our products and promotions.

Sincerely,

Consumer Response Representative

Hah-hah, YAY! *No Wonder!* I never got sick off those! Whoohoo. Nice to know there is a little something to have every now and again. Anyone know about New York Peppermint Patties (I seem to do well with these, too)? Or those little peanut butter cups? Not that I'm looking to eat a giant 5oz. Butterfinger, but isn't it crazy how there's only gluten in that one?? Weird. On Sun, Apr 27, 2008 at 11:51 AM, Louise Audell <louise_gd@...> wrote:

Yes I agree with you , it's crazy.

Sorry Nestle, but the notion that only some Butterfingers will poison

me immediately puts that candy (all Butterfingers) on my DON'T EVER

EAT list.

LOL! I know. If I have to work that hard to figure out which of your identical products is ok, I'll go for some other treat.

Both the York Peppermint Patties and the Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are

safe to eat. They are both made by Hershey's and this is their allergy

information:

Food Allergies

What is a food allergy?

It is an adverse reaction to a food or food component that involves the

body's immune system.

How does The Hershey Company manage allergies?

The Hershey Company strives to provide its consumers with accurate,

reliable ingredient statements upon which consumers can make their

purchase decision. The Hershey Company has an Allergy Task Force that

ensures that the ingredient statements are always accurate, and that any

allergen statements placed on the label is understandable.

Do your products share plants & equipment?

We take food allergies very seriously at Hershey and have strict

procedures in place to prevent crossover of allergens into other

products that do not contain the allergen. In instances where we have a

concern about possible crossover by an allergen we take the added

precaution of including an allergy information statement on the label.

Can you send me an allergen list?

We have found that allergen lists quickly become outdated as our product

lines change over time. Rather than have you make purchase decisions

based on outdated information, we encourage you to check the ingredient

label on the package. This label provides accurate, current information

about all the ingredients in the package.

They do not have the ingredients listed on line but I have been eating

both of these for years without any problems. But always check the

labels to be sure.

Mark
