Guest guest
Em: your question and information underscores to me the importance of reading BT120YD CAREFULLY before undertaking CRON. Dr W states that under no circumstances should one go under 1000 cal a day. To do so would be skirting the edge of malnutrition and/or anorexia. In this group the book is a MUST READ . Be sure to read the pitfalls and avoid them rather than ignore them. Also READ OUR FILES. As Dr W states, the way to begin CRON is to start off with a HIGH calorie program and slowly subtract calories, rather than vice-versa. If you adopt a too stringent program, you are more likely to eventually abandon CRON altogether because it will be too difficult. And if you lose weight too quickly you could be harming rather than helping your health. All discussed in BT120YD. AFA vitamins, it is best to get as many nutrients as possible from food. As many studies posted here suggest, the nutrients that occur naturally in foods act synergistically in ways that are just being discovered. That often can not be duplicated in pills as they exist in nature. And in many cases, some nutrients have proven to be dangerous and some useless in pill form. I hope you're using a nutrition tracker. See our file on that subject and for free programs you can access on line. Congratulations on improving your depression with B's and fish oil, but be sure to get the real thing i.e. wild fresh or canned salmon, and/or other fatty fish, and more B vitamin foods. To all Newbies: You should read BT120YD before posting. And you should read our files before posting. That will answer many of your questions and spare us from answering the same questions again and again. on 3/2/2006 4:29 PM, Emma Fergusson at emkydd@... wrote: Hello, I am relatively new to the CR way of life and I wanted to know if anyone can provide information as to how many vitamins (and what kind of vitamin) I need to take daily with a 900-1,000 calorie/day diet. I am currently taking one multivitamin, a fish oil supplement and a vitamin B complex. I decided to take the fish oil and vitamin B complex to help with my depression and it has helped me tremendously with that. I am just wondering whether I need to take more, and if so, what kinds. Guest guest
Hi Em: Most people have no idea which critical nutrients they are short of and therefore need to supplement. I was startled at what I found when I first did a thorough nutrient analysis on a web-based nutrient analysis program. So you need to do that. Consider www.fitday.com If you are eating so few calories you will be especially prone to deficiencies in a few important nutrients. But which ones depends on what you are eating. Hence the need for the analysis. Congratulations, though, on making the effort to come here and get back control over what and how much you eat. Welcome. There's also questions of bioavailability and bioutilization with synthetic nutrients. Personally, I don't believe relying on synthetic nutrients as opposed to food nutrients is warranted by scientific or empirical evidence. If you must supplement to make up defenciences, then strongly consider a food-based supplement such as TwinLab's new, low-cost Ultra Harvest line or Garden of Life's Living line. Another very trustworthy (IMHO) company specializing in food-based (and cultured) supplements is New Chapter.
