Hi Sharon,

Don't let a narrow minded dr stop you... Are there any compounding pharmacies near you?? If so, call and ask which dr prescribes LDN. That is how I found mine. I went to a cancer specialist who was willing to write the script - even though I have ms. It is your life - don't let a dr mess it up.

I haven't been to the dr in about a year.

[low dose naltrexone] doctor question

Hi Ya'll,

This is the first time I have joined in the group discussion. I was diagnosed in April 05 - I was put on rebif - 3 times a week...didn't get the warm and fuzzy feeling with my doctor that I had hoped for.....I had an appointment yesterday and still am not getting it. I asked her about LDN and she said flat out no...

My question is....is there anyone that lives in Memphis, Tn thats seeing a doctor thats maybe more specialized in MS.....maybe more openminded and proactive...

any suggestions would be great !!!

Thanks !!

Sharon :)

Hi Sharon,

I am attaching a (disorganized) list of doctors that in the past have prescribed LDN to our chatters. Also, you may wish to contact Skip and Skip's pharmacy in Florida. He could give you names of doctors that prescribe in your area.

In addition you could order without a doctors prescription from Mexico.

I will also send over links to help you with talking to your doctor and links about LDN.

Also included in this e-mail is my husbands list of supplements that he takes, and the protocols from Dr. ce in England. He has MS and is a big proponent of LDN.

Hope this all helps

Aletha

The following is from Maureen on how to talk to your doctor:

"Last week I convinced my neurologist to let me try LDN. She'd never heard of it, but after reading a folder of information I'd prepared, and discussing it with me, she wrote out a prescription. Several people here have asked me to share the contents of the "magic folder." With the help of LarryLDN (thanks Larry), this information is now online. There are two documents.... you should read them both. One is the Doctor's Folder, the folder of information to show your doctor: http://www.larrygc.com/ldn/ldndoctorsfolder.docThe other is a Patient's Guide to Explaining LDN to your Doctor, which will help you present the Folder to your doctor without your doctor's head exploding: http://www.larrygc.com/ldn/ldnpatientguide.docI welcome any comments. If you present this information to your doctor, please let me know how it goes for you. Good Luck!!!" -- Maureen

Hi Jill,

I feel your pain. For a 'healthy' 35-year old woman, I sure do have a lot of doctors. I too have Hashimoto' and a endocrinologist managing it. HOWEVER, I'm about ready to drop the endocrinologist. Here's my story:

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's in my mid twenties, and it was managed by my internist. When I got pregnant, I ditched the internist and had the OBGYN do all of the blood work for the thyroid (I specified witch items to test and the results were sent to my internist). My thryroid stayed in control on the medication I was taking through two pregnancies (which is weird, many women see a change during pregnancy and they test you each trimester).

When my youngest was 3, my thyroid levels randomly went off and my internist suggested that I see an endocrinologist because there was no reason for the sudden change. He continued many of the similar tests plus a couple more, switched me to a branded prescription (the pharmacy had been giviung me generic, and they are not as stable with the dosage as the branded Synthroid and Levoxyl) and checked me every 6 months including measuring the size of my thryroid (with his fingers on my neck only). After about a year or two with him, I was fine, and levelled out again.

Then came the stomach aches, and the gastroenterologist and you guessed it...Celiac Disease, October 3, 2007! So...each time the gastro wanted to test my antibodies I make him run the same blood work that my endo wanted to avoid multiples needles, and had copies sent to them both. I feel like a general contractor for my health. It works well for me though. So now, I am blowing off the gastro, cause the blood tests look good, I'm seeing the endo until my levels steady (cause the gluten free diet is changing how I absorb the Levoxyl), then I'll blow him off too and stick to my internist. No OBGYN for me, cause no more kids to be had!

Hope that helps. Please let me know if you want to talk some more, happy to help.

p.s. I love all of these doctors however they are all up here in the San Ramon/Danville/Walnut Creek area.

I am celiac, as well as hypothyroid (hashimoto's) , and trying to have baby#2. I am frustrated because I feel like too many doctors are managing my health. My GP and OBGYN both test my thyroid, but only based on TSH. I have a gastro...how often do I go to him to get my numbers checked to make sure I am eating gf? My husband suggested I see an endocrinologist for my thyroid, but I feel like that is adding one more doctore into the mix. Does anyone have a good endo dr in sunnyvale, mountain view area? I have heard of the stanford celiac center but haven't been. I would appreciate anyone's advice or recommendations with doctors and managing all these health issues. thanks, jill
