Wow. I hadn't noticed that at all, and I like to have the post to look back to. We'll try to trim.On Sun, May 4, 2008 at 6:52 AM, fairegold <brodrick@...> wrote:

Please, this list has become completely unreadable. At least in the

The problem is including all previous posts when you hit the " reply "

button. Please, try to trim your posts of previous material, and

don't include the previous message in every reply.

Maybe it doesn't bother other people, but for me, the digests are

annoyingly cluttered, and simply unreadable.

Thanks.

I always wish that everyone included every previous post, so that when I check my email at the end of a busy day, I can just open the last email in the thread and get the whole story.

Lately we've been having some really detailed conversations that might

make the conversation string make more sense. In more typical threads

about cake (or similar) people are usually just responding to the last

poster and it doesn't really matter that fifteen posts ago the cake

conversation got started by talking about birthdays, so it often isn't

necessary to leave those previous posts in there.

When you get a digest what happens is sends you one email with

every person's post neatly listed so you can catch up on the whole day

that way. Actually, it's terrific, and really necessary on very busy

boards like SillyYaks. For those who don't have time to read emails

all day, the digest is a very good way to catch up. I highly recommend

it, if you haven't tried it. :) The problem with quotes is that

especially if you are trying to read the digests on a portable

internet device like a cell phone, you have to scroll through page

after page after page of the same messages over and over, which is no

fun. (no matter how interesting the posts ;) Even if you're not

reading on a portable device, you are then reading one VERRRY LONG

email that just repeats the same things over and over again.

Often the moderator of a board has a rule/request that people cut out

the rest of the messages so it doesn't get cumbersome for other

readers. (At both SillyYaks and at GFVegetarian the moderators have

made this a standing request.) Here I just think a few members are

voicing their preferences, so no worries. Really! No worries! :)

I usually am replying to a specific item, which I high-light (as below). If I were not, and if I preferred not to include earlier messages, how would I omit them? This isn't a rhetorical question.

I too had been thinking of posting something to request that folks trim

their messages. I use the digest view, and the recent thread

called " Regarding chance glutening remedies " has gotten SO LONG that i

have to hit Page Down FIFTY-ONE TIMES to get to the next message...

this is really painful! And multiply that by the fact that this thread

was replied to 5-10 times each day for the past several days, and you

get several hundred extra clicks for me... So please do trim your

messages. If you really want to leave some context, just leave the

most recent posting that you are replying to. Thank you!!

H - you usually seem pretty good at this, but you said your question

wasn't rhetorical, so here goes. Don't you usually see the preceding

messages in your email program's message editing window? Just

highlight it all and delete it. itself doesn't append it or make

sure anything is attached beyond your new text.

Thanks, all!
