Guest guest
hi there- It's been just over 6 months now since going gluten free and it's amazing I let myself feel so lousy for so long where there was such a straigtforward solution (with many thanks to this community, glutenfreegirl, and the glutenfreeforum which has made me feel so welcome and supported). In addition to no longer having constant tummy aches and digestion issues (which I thought was normal), within the first month I noticed: - I no longer catch colds (I used to catch EVERYTHING - now, nothing) - My sinuses are clear (I used to have a constant post nasal drip) - My pollen allergies are gone I was also dairy free the first month, then introduced some cheese, then last month realized I could have lactose free milk and ice cream, and now can even tolerate yogurt and small amounts of regular milk/dairy. Now..before going GF, for many years I was extremely sensitive to caffeine (I'd get the jitters from decaf coffee and could not drink coke) as well as alcohol (one drink and I was very buzzed). Now I have been able to try both with no reaction at all. I find it very strange. Has anyone else found other sensitives vanished after healing from going gluten free? And is 6 months the usual window to notice these things? It can't be a coincidence and I wonder what else I may discover! Jean
Guest guest
I am better--but not as better as you. Congratulations!! Your case gives me hope however although apparently I have had this condition since infancy. I do notice I am more resistant to the common cold and viral flue and can eat a little outside my previous extreme limited diet. Now its only moderate extreme given my context (lol!). I also notice that now if I get cross contaminated with gluten its not as big a deal as it was if I then eat real live nonfat no sugar yogurt and sufficient fresh uncooked pineapple or take probiotics and bromelain/papain caps right away. And yes--yogurt was off my list previously. Its so great to get it back on!! Though I still can't manage cheese. Coke, alcohol, coffee and the rest however may be permanently off my list due to my damaged, sensitive kidneys.BeaFrom: jeansomlo <jina68@...>Subject: [ ] is this normal - other sensitivities vansihing after going GF? After about 3 years I still feel continued improvement. I noticed immediate improvement in about a week after going GF, substantial improvement in aches, allergies, energy, and general well-being after about 6 months, and began to tolerate other problem items such as dairy and corn after about a year. By now I feel great - better than I have since I was in my 20s, which is a sobering indication of how long this stuff dragged on. -- Joe http://sanbeiji.com/
Guest guest
I have to agree with Bronwyn that sensitivities can decrease. But it is not consistent. I have had times were I had an accidental ingestion (The ingredients were changed on something that I eat regularly) and had no reaction or very minor reaction. But then there are other times that I get just a trace amount and have very severe reaction. I was sick all day yesterday because I got a very small bread crumb the night before and I had very severe cramping, bloating and diarrhea. It does not help when my family is not gluten free and sometimes are careless and do not clean up after themselves. In this case some one made a sandwich in the counter top that I use to lay out my medicines. I usually wipe down the counter but I was tired and did not, and felt something in my mouth just as I was swallowing and it was to late and then I saw other crumbs. So, in short your sensitivity can go up and down but you never know what it well be like from day to day. Mark
