Guest guest
Uh, check carefully on the GF status. Notice that line about beer batter? I vaguely recall (could be wrong) that a year or so ago we heard that WeirdFish was GF, and then heard that it definitely is not. H. Guest guest
Unfortunately I think that's an old listing on Yelp. I was all excited to go there until I saw that their menu had changed. Please let me know if I'm wrong and they do have gf fish and chips. I'm looking forward to going to the restaurant near Portland one day just for that very reason! The Mission is a lot closer . . . P.S. Whole Foods now has delicious gf cinnamon rolls, in the freezer with the gf breads and muffins. Delicious! I haven't had a cinnamon roll since I was diagnosed 6 years ago. What a treat. in SF -----Original Message----- From: on behalf of Tom Sent: Thu 5/8/2008 6:47 PM Subject: [ ] New GF fish and chips in the city my friend just emailed me to let me know that a new fish and chips restaurant in the Mission is offering fish fried in GF-batter. Guest guest
My memory is that technically the soy-batter at weird fish is gluten free, but they are fried in the same oil as the normal fish n chips. At one point they had a dedicated fryer, but I am pretty sure they switched owners or something about a year back and now they no longer do. Guest guest
Someone mentioned Portland for GF fish and chips? I'm going there in a couple of weeks - can I be a taster for you:-) Please let me know if you meant somewhere in Portland Oregon - I'd love to try it. Also, if anyone else knows good restaurants in Portland or Seattle I'd really appreciate your passing them on to me. Take care Ruth
Guest guest
I think you are looking for the Corbett Fish House. And there is also a Corbett Coffee next door that has baked goods. See the great “Book of Yum’ for more info http://www.bookofyum.com/blog/category/portland-oregon. Also – There is a chian of Thai food restaurants that I have eaten at successfully – Typhoon. http://www.typhoonrestaurants.com/welcome.htm I have eaten there twice and had no problems. The wait staff was very helpful, and food was yummy! Guest guest
Yes, the Corbett Fish House outside Portland, Ore. offers gf fish and chips so I've heard, and I can't wait to go there. Please do report back! You're in for some treats in Seattle. There is a gluten free cafe called DaVinci's, which is located in the Greenwood district (on Greenwood Ave., I think, but check to be sure). The entire menu is homeade, gluten free, and delicious. (Make sure the address information you get is current as Kaili, the chef/owner, has moved several times over the past few years.) Also there is a great Mexican restaurant in Ballard/Wallingford, the name of which escapes me, which has an entirely gluten free menu too. I found out about it online, but can't find the link right now. Lombardi's, an Italian restaurant in Ballard, also has a gluten free menu. If I recall the chef will even serve you bruschetta spread on rice toasts instead of regular bread. Here's a link to lots of options: http://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc=gluten+free&find_loc=Seattle+WA When I look at the extensive list of offerings in cities like Seattle and New York, I have to wonder why only one restaurant in San Francisco (other than the chains in neighboring towns) has a mostly gluten free menu. Lots of places accomodate us here, but it would be great if a group of us could get some of our local restaurants really on board with meeting the needs of the potentially huge gluten intolerant clientele. -----Original Message----- From: on behalf of Groff Sent: Fri 5/9/2008 8:27 AM Subject: RE: [ ] Re: New GF fish and chips in the city I think you are looking for the Corbett Fish House. Guest guest
Hmmm, well I'd ask lots of questions before you try it. They also have homemade seitan (wheat gluten) that they use with the wheat-free batter (I don't really get that, but maybe it is to make it vegan). I'd be a little afraid to eat here, but if anybody does give it a go, I haven't had fish and chips since I lived in Glasgow -- In , maya s <mayaglutenfree@...> wrote: > > My memory is that technically the soy-batter at weird fish is gluten free, but they are fried in the same oil as the normal fish n chips. Guest guest
There are (at least) two gluten-free bakeries in Seattle. I especially enjoyed Sunny Valley Wheat Free. Guest guest
I meant to tell y'all that the Rainbow Grocery in SF is carrying a few new baked goods from Azna Bakery (based in Cameron Park: www.aznaglutenfree.com ). Note that they are both GF and VEGAN. They carry DELICIOUS cinnamon rolls sold individually in the pastry case, and they also sell boxes of Maple Pecan scones and Double Chocolate brownies. Both looked very tasty but I have not tried them yet. Based on the cinnamon roll being so melt-in-your-mouth awesome, I am looking forward to trying the other stuff! > P.S. Guest guest
I went to the Corbett fish and chips place near xmas and I was so excited! I had, well, fish and chips. We were going to go to the cafe next door but it was closed. I would have had the desserts too but was already stuffed. They have some non-gf stuff on the menu are are as much a pub (with normal beer) as a restaurant. It was also kid friendly. Why oh why don't we have places like that here.... -Luther On 5/9/08, Palmer, <palmer@...> wrote: > Yes, the Corbett Fish House outside Portland, Ore. offers gf fish and chips > so I've heard, and I can't wait to go there. Guest guest
Both Corbett Fish House & Hawthorne Fish House (same owners, same menu) are in Portland. Corbett is SW, near the river and Hawthorne is in the worthwhile Hawthorne District, east of the river. ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile.
