Guest guest
CONTINUED: When I was in college, I lived in a somewhat communal house. One of the group decided to make beer, and we all were enthusiastic supporters of his first batch. All this was long ago and quite revolutionary -- there were no books available, but he was a chemistry major, so . . . Unfortunately, every bottle exploded. The caps were tightly secured, so the bottles themselves exploded. Glass everywhere. Fortunately, no one was in the "brewery" downstairs when this happened. The smell never went away. Poor landlord. He went through the whole malting process (I think he used buckwheat) and set up his beer to brew on a shelf in the family room. A couple of days later we came home to find that 5 gallons of beer was too much for the shelf brackets to support and his efforts had to be cleaned out of the carpet. Needless to say, he has not tried making beer again since then....Moral of the story: you probably want to do this in your garage. Good luck with the beer brewing!
