Guest guest
The Jewel Box is the bed and breakfast that I stayed at this past weekend in Capitola that served a wonderful gluten-free breakfast. One of their websites indicated that they could do gluten-free breakfast and I spoke to the innkeeper Tina Distad about it when we booked the reservation. Given that I am used to having a hard-boiled egg and some fruit at best for breakfast when I travel, Tina exceeded all of my expectations. The breakfast spread was large and wonderful. Everything was organic and locally-produced when possible. Tina made me delicious gluten-free banana bread (and gave me the recipe) to accompany her spread of regular breads and pastries. There was also organic dairy and soy yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, tons of delicious fruit, nut butters and jam, freshly-squeezed orange juice, apple juice, milk and cream from a local dairy, soy milk, tea, and coffee. It was far and away the best breakfast I have ever had while traveling and not cooking my own food. The suite we had for the night was also fabulous--it included a nice bathroom with a jet tub and a very comfortable bed. There was a living room with books, games and DVDs for relaxing and a nice outdoor deck. The B & B is a quick walk to the village and beach at Capitola and an easy drive to Santa Cruz. Overall, I highly recommend The Jewel Box and would definitely stay there again when I am in the area. http://www.jewelboxbnb.com/ http://www.ibbp.com/jewelboxbedbreakfast.html
