Guest guest
Francesca, This is a wonderful post. I am finding myself motivated by reading it as well as learning about the 'razor' thin guy who is 90 and can out-thing the best of them. I like the human side of CR, and this post gives me a flavor for you, your personaltiy, and other parts of the world where the culture is more conducive to longevity than the US. I am getting thinner as time passes, and hope that I to can have a sharp mind when I get to my 90's as well. I like these kinds of posts Francesca. Please keep them going. A. Having beat my hypoglycemia over the last years by eliminating rice, potatoes, bread etc ad inf, I suddenly found myself tofu-less and basically fishless. Reminder, we are living in the panic of BSE over here, and I don't eat pork; difficult. Many eggs and some canned fish later, I found my face transforming into that goofy/guilty smile of the licencious pleasure seeker as I began ordering the forbidden pasta. Ohhh was that good, and ohhhh was I in a stupor. I now write this from the sobriety of the newly reformed... But one curiosity: why didn't I see extremely obese people (a la Americana) over there where the GI is very high? In fact, why didn't I see many people that were even more than moderately fat? (My guilt made me look for them in vindication) The combination of dishes dripping in olive oil, cheese, animal fats plus the carbo load would lead one to expect the American phenomenon. Not one! Somehow the younger generation stays thin for vanity even on that diet, while many many elderly people in their 70's and more were very nimble and active. (In Italy the elderly are respected and are still included in all family activities. There are no 'homes' where they put the unwanted away to die, instead the family cares for and values them.) The other side of the Cron: Indro Montanelli, in his 90's is their most popular journalist/historian alive, writing columns each day in their most prestigous paper. He is razor thin, looks 60 , and can outthink the best of them. A living example of 'intuitive' CR. He is famous for how little he has always eaten and over decades has been publicly teased by others as well as by himself. Maybe the Italians also inherited the genes of paradise as well? best to all, MM _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
