Guest guest
Thank you Joy, that is so beautifully put. Thank you Shyann! I think it is very important that we realize. Fish oil is a good supplement for ANYONE, precisely because it boosts brain function and kids with any neurological disorders need this desperately, no matter what their precise affliction is. Now different formulas and combinations may work for different kids--depending on their other deficiencies etc. --but fish oil is the best supplement we could be giving them, I am convinced of that and was giving it to her even before I ever knew she had apraxia. Now of course the problem was she was NOT absorbing--due to her leaky gut which i did not know about ant the other nutritional deficiencies created. So a lot of parents need to fully understand the absorption factors before giving up on fish oil, and more importnatly, as Shyann says, it really helps a lot more than speech--it is the most powerful and safe anti inflamatory there is and helps with all inflammatory states in the body, particularly in the brain--it really boosts brain power for everyone, young and old. It is the last thing i would ever give up, in fact never would, we all take it because we all need it, the young old, stressed parents dealing with it all--everyone needs the fish oil, and you need it to maintain brain power and clarity focus etc, not when you realize you're losing it, by then it amyy be too altre for the fish oil to erase the full damage. It definitely is the best thing to take give, we gave it as Christmas gifts to everyone a few year ago--with adequate literature of course so they would hopeful read, understand and continue. All the best, Elena--mom to Ziana --age 4. 3, appraxic with soft signs but otherwise a happy healthy child and doing GREAT, now that appropriate diet/ supplements and more frequent PROMPT is possible. And yes, for us the B12 shots (she was deficient due to gluten issues and leaky gut) and the PRO EFA/EPA + E were amazing! NEW OUTLOOK Date: Saturday, November 29, 2008, 11:27 AM Shyann wanted to share this information for some time. I find it is especially important for those of you with young children who have not yet verbalized. Shyann, 9 years, was on fish oils for the first time in her life this year. Then she quit following Speak. Now she is back on the EFA/EPA (and YES the EFA tates better than EPA!) and she would like to share the results of her experience regarding fish oils. This is paraphrazed of coarse, but mostly in her own words. 1. Don't think for one second that fish oils arn't working. 2. Just because someone (your child) can't start speaking better doesn't mean the fish oils arn't working. 3. You (child) won't get so frustrated taking oils. 4. Other things in life get better. (refering to academics) 5. Things start to go pop in your head when you take oils. You just will be trying to do something like spelling and before (taking oils) you would forget the next letter and then (with oils) your brain just kind of pops and it's like you can hear it (your brain popping)and then suddenly you know the next letter and it all makes sense. 6. Don't let your Mommie stop the oils (<sign>, so sorry Shyann) before going to the doctor (neorologist in our instance) because you (the reader) don't know how hard it is for your kid to have to live not knowing. (Live without the benefit of fish oils; having known something, and then having to struggle with the understanding of something you previously knew or understood) 7. I understand things better about things. (she understands concepts) 8. MOST IMPORTANT!!! DON'T WAIT FOR YOUR KID TO SPEAK BETTER. That's all EVERYONE cares about!. But there are alot of things going on inside your brain that are getting better BEFORE your speech improves!!! Maybe your little girl or boy can't talk to tell you these things SO I AM LETTING YOU KNOW!!! So out of the mind and mouth of a 9 year old who wants to share with all adults about apaxia. She actually has some valid points. Love, Joy and Shyann > Hi > Here is my expeience about stopping fish oils. > > My daughter has been on fish oil/vit E supplements for about 3 > years. Guest guest
If you're looking for underlying causes and the current neurologist has not been able to help--few really know how to help apraxic kids BTW---but my suggestion is look for a biomedically trained pediatrician--otherwise known as a DAN doctor--but it doesn't have to be it's just that most of them get this special training to help autistic kids and the same protocols actually help anybody with neurological disorders--autism is just the most common unfortunately. . Ziana is not autistic either, but it is all a neurological disorders continuum. And metabolic disorders such as malabsorptions and deficiencies and oxidative stress due to various causes which results in mitochomdiral dysfunction are all common in all neurological disorders. Only biomedically trained doctors look into that, very few geneticists, and nutritionists, and even fewer neurologists--their strengths are elsewhere, definitely not in speech problems. Good luck! -Elena

Guest guest
The only real sleep disruptions Shyann had were from vivid dreams and nightmares. Each time she awoke from one of these she came to my bed and told me her dream or nightmare. The nightmares kept her up for hours, scared to sleep again. This didn't last over a month, and now although she still dreams more vividly than before, I think her brain awakening is adjusting to it somewhat. Hope that may help.
