Guest guest
Shyann wanted to share this information for some time. I find it is especially important for those of you with young children who have not yet verbalized. Shyann, 9 years, was on fish oils for the first time in her life this year. Then she quit following Speak. Now she is back on the EFA/EPA (and YES the EFA tates better than EPA!) and she would like to share the results of her experience regarding fish oils. This is paraphrazed of coarse, but mostly in her own words. 1. Don't think for one second that fish oils arn't working. 2. Just because someone (your child) can't start speaking better doesn't mean the fish oils arn't working. 3. You (child) won't get so frustrated taking oils. 4. Other things in life get better. (refering to academics) 5. Things start to go pop in your head when you take oils. You just will be trying to do something like spelling and before (taking oils) you would forget the next letter and then (with oils) your brain just kind of pops and it's like you can hear it (your brain popping)and then suddenly you know the next letter and it all makes sense. 6. Don't let your Mommie stop the oils (<sign>, so sorry Shyann) before going to the doctor (neorologist in our instance) because you (the reader) don't know how hard it is for your kid to have to live not knowing. (Live without the benefit of fish oils; having known something, and then having to struggle with the understanding of something you previously knew or understood) 7. I understand things better about things. (she understands concepts) 8. MOST IMPORTANT!!! DON'T WAIT FOR YOUR KID TO SPEAK BETTER. That's all EVERYONE cares about!. But there are alot of things going on inside your brain that are getting better BEFORE your speech improves!!! Maybe your little girl or boy can't talk to tell you these things SO I AM LETTING YOU KNOW!!! So out of the mind and mouth of a 9 year old who wants to share with all adults about apaxia. She actually has some valid points. Love, Joy and Shyann > Hi > Here is my expeience about stopping fish oils. > > My daughter has been on fish oil/vit E supplements for about 3 > years. Guest guest
Thanks for the info - especially the first-hand accounts from Shyann. Elena - we don't see a DAN dr (although my son is not autistic, I'm sure a DAN would help). My son's neuro is sending him for bloodwork next month (testing an amino acid), and I would like an accurate answer on the rest of his levels, so I'm having his pediatrician write a script for the rest of the vitamins to be checked on the same blood draw. Without the fish oils and vitamin E, hopefully I'll have an accurate answer as to where the underlying problems are. I'm thinking of switching neuro's as well. Not only is the one I see almost an hour away, she isn't seeming to treat his apraxia. I don't know what to expect, but the first visit she did an MRI/ EEG/ bloodwork, and this time around she gave me another bloodwork (methylhisitidines) that may have been an issue and may have been human error. Other than that, it's " see you in a few months " . I want someone who will really look into underlying causes. I'm taking him to another appt in Jan, but I may look into another dr if I don't get more answers. I'm hoping that all of this gets figured out soon. While I'm enjoying the non-sensory Nick, I know it's not what's best for him or his speech. The fish oils are waiting for him when find the right answers. And I'd like to see if there's a difference when we restart them if we slowly build up, which I did not do last time. Thanks for the answers!!! Guest guest
Please thank Shyann from us. When I first tried oils with my son we did not get speech. I figured him a nonresponder. I now realize he was so darn gutimpaired than they could not cover it all. Plus, what she says coincides with so much of what you read...that all systems have to be up to par to prevent compensation, etc. I kept retrying the oils and while we don't do " the formula " here we have gotten help. Can I ask you or anyone else, anyone have sleep disruption from the oils? Even if temporary? That seems to be going on here but I want to be sure. I am only now asking after ruling out other factors. > > > > > > > Shyann wanted to share this information for some time.
