Guest guest
Try a health food store for Spry Toothpaste. Tom's of Maine has a non-fluoride version but only at the health food stores. The supermarket version still has fluoride. Spry has a whole line of great toothpastes. It has Xylitol and is very good stuff. I've heard that Oral B stuff is just a waste. Theres also a group called veryyoungkidsteeth-- great tips there too.
Guest guest
My son's OT just recommended we try Tom's of Maine as it is all natural (without fluoride) and there are a lot of strong flavors that might provide the necessary feedback for him to actually let us brush his teeth. We haven't tried it yet, but I thought it was worth a go! Penny http://twoplusoneequalsfive.blogspot.com/ > > My dd hasn't quite mastered spitting out her toothpaste. Guest guest
I have a 5 yo and a 9 yo who about cried when I tried Tom's toothpaste - as it is VERY strong. I was able to brush the 9 yo's teeth, but he had a funny look on his face and wanted to spit out (something that he, too, is not very good at) - usually he'll swallow it (though I am working on him to spit out. My five yo tried a little on his finger while I was brushing the older ones teeth and then he refused to let me even try saying, " Too hot, Momma " . I didn't push it of course. I had them try mine, so maybe not the best flavor. I bought the Natural antiplaque tartar control plus whitening toothpaste (peppermint flavor). If there are other flavors, it might work for you, but I would not suggest getting this one!!!!!! Guest guest
, Is this a different one as here it says it has fluoride? https://www.vitacost.com/-Sea-Fresh-CoQ10-Tooth-Gel- Toothpaste#IngredientFacts Avoiding fluoride is key. Another helpful thing is to avoid aluminum in the packaging. Lastly, we found out the hard way that avoiding this popular toothpaste ingredient is necessary. http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=1242073 HTH, Liz > > Just wanted to point out that there are many other all natural > toothpastes out there other than Tom's. Guest guest
Hey Liz! Nope the " sea weed " toothpaste is fluoride free. I got the quote below from the Natural website. " Sea Fresh Toothpaste & Mouthwash Non-Fluoride, Cooling Spearmint Flavor Sea Fresh has tapped into the most important resource of the 21st century for healthy teeth and gums - the sea. For hundreds of years our food came with minerals from the soil. Erosion has lowered the soil's mineral content, yet stress and exposure to environmental pollution have raised the value for trace minerals. Sea Fresh has tapped the ancient sea beds of the Great Salt Lake in Utah for natural calcium, zinc, potassium, magnesium, a multitude of trace minerals and Dead Sea Salts to help care for teeth and gums. From the crystal clear waters of Klamath Lake, Oregon, Sea Fresh has harvested Biologically-Active Blue-Green Algae - cleansing, freshening & gum-soothing. From the oceans, Sea Kelp and Sea Parsley combine with essential Oils of Spearmint to create Sea Fresh powerful breath freshening. Plus, plaque reduction from exclusive Perilla Seed Extract known to block sugar acids. Furthermore, Bamboo Powder, never before in toothpaste, combines with Silica and Calcium Carbonate for triple- powered whitening without chemicals or harsh abrasives. Directions: Use twice daily to help prevent: Dullness, Stains, Dry Mouth, Discolorations, Bad Breath, Tartar Buildup, Sugar Acids. " The owner of NaturalNews.com is involved in shoptoearth as well and is one of the many people advising which are some of the best organic manufacturers, and they keep adding more. Also I am using this for me and my family loves it (funny if you think about it that I found a sea kelp toothpaste!!!) But as you'll read from any review about this toothpaste -don't let the algae and sea water scare you -it tastes amazing even to people that don't like natural stuff - it's a best kept secret favorite toothpaste of many. Guess in real life most don't want to admit they brush their teeth with sea kelp? Besides -on my last message for the little kids I posted another that is also non fluoride. Weleda Children's Tooth Gel - 1.78 oz Price US $4.50 Description: Natural protection for children's baby teeth - fluoride- free Gently cares for the delicate teeth and gums of your young child. (for those that don't know Kathy's story when you go to the above website click on the photo of her 4 boys and it will tell you a bit more -she's been a member of this group since almost day one and as a " teacher of the year " award winning teacher and mom to twin boys with apraxia who lost her husband in a car accident -I just thought as one of our members, we all could reach out to help her. =====

Guest guest
Our dentist has recommended never using fluoride, there are many studies possibly linking fluoride to harmful damage to enamel of developing teeth (fluorosis), neurological effects (incl. lower IQ), endocrine effects, and bone effects. It was also recommended that we avoid toothpaste containing glycerin since the glycerin really coats the teeth without cleaning well, potentially trapping bacteria etc. We use either toothsoap or Tropical Traditions tooth cleaner. Both are all natural. True to its name, toothsoap has a slightly soapy taste but even my very picky 8 year old is fine with the citrus flavor and if you stick to the recommended dose (just a couple of drops), the taste is minimal (I stopped noticing it pretty quickly personally). HTH, Kim There is always the old fallback of baking soda too. > > > Hey Liz! > > > > Nope the " sea weed " toothpaste is fluoride free. Guest guest
Pamela Diamond wrote: > when should you start using floruride toothpaste? my son just had his first > dentist appointment and has a cavity!! I cannot believe it. Pam Flouride is not recommended - despite decades of previous marketing to use it. According to reports from the dental associations and related research, it doesn't prevent cavities - it makes the teeth more vulnerable (in addition to the other really BAD neurological and other side-effects of flouride and flouride-based products). Cavities can also form when the pH of the mouth is out of balance and that can be diet-related. I'll see if I can dig up some archives and other info from around the net to re-share....it make take me a while as we're in a 3-day holiday here and I have the kids home. In the meantime, you may try a quick Google search for " flouride dental dangers " -- lots of articles there. One thorough site is www.flouridealert.org Liz (aka ilizzy) will probably write soon, too - she's the " queen of flouride danger references "

Guest guest
In my experience many parents do not recommend it but I have never had a dentist not recommend flouride. (In fact both dentists our family sees recommended flouride suplementation. I always thought our water was flouridated but it is not. I checked the report we get mailed to us every year and was surprised to discover that. I do not supplement flouride. We just use flouride toothpaste.) My youngest (5 1/2) stopped having cavities when we started flouride toothpaste. Prior to that we used Orajel. It was not very effective at cavity prevention in our experience. He does have a problem with his teeth (It's low enamel I think. Guest guest
I have to check with another dentist friend but my one friend who is Dakota's orthodontist (Dakota has I-braces!) says that she has " mixed feelings) about fluoride because she sees what happens to teeth of people that don't have fluoride -but she knows while it's good for the teeth it's not good for the body. So it's not all black and white with people that work as professional dentistry either. BTW -she did check out the 's toothpaste for me and her eyebrows went up when she read the ingredients -she especially appeared to be impressed with the CoQ10 and said this looks really good. Bibi (Dr. Ramos) also pointed out that " you are aware that many things we use in dentistry are from the sea aren't you? " I said " no " So she brought up the example of agar which is made form sea algae to make molds for the mouth. Also it appears that some toothpastes contain fluoride and some do not -so have to check as it can work for you either way! =====
Guest guest
Fluorisis is what it is called. It affects more than teeth. Lowers IQ, affects the pineal gland, damages bone. If you google fluoride action network the history of fluoride is there and why dentists mistakenly recommend it. 75% of the U.S. has fluoridated water. Even in places where it is defined as not fluoridated per water reports they can add up to 1 ppm (dangerous and linked to bone cancer in boys)without it being considered fluoridated. Best to get it out. Reverse osmosis for drinking. > > > when should you start using floruride toothpaste? my son just > had his first > > > dentist appointment and has a cavity!! Guest guest
From http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/76975.php Fluoride Damages Teeth, New Warning By Dentists 17 Jul 2007 Fluoride ingestion, once thought to reduce cavities, can lead to dental fluorosis -- white spotted, yellow, brown and/or pitted tooth enamel. Modern science indicates fluoride absorbs into tooth enamel topically, primarily.(3) Studies link dental fluorosis to children's kidney damage (4) and bone fractures (5). The ADA and Centers for Disease Control recently advised that fluoridated water should not be mixed into concentrated infant formula, in order to decrease dental fluorosis risk -- now a growing U.S. problem. (6) Never safety-tested by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration) (7), fluoride supplements do more harm than good.(8) MORE FLOURIDE LINKS World Health Organization (WHO): Chemical Hazards in Drinking Water - Fluoride <http://www.who.int/water_sanitation_health/dwq/chemicals/fluoride/en/> Fluoride Action Network (FAN): Fluoride Hazards Reported <http://www.fluoridealert.org/news/2567.html> Thyroid Info: Fluoride: A Bad Idea Whose Time Has Passed <http://www.thyroid-info.com/articles/shamesfluoride.htm> The Optimal Wellness Center is a reference point for guiding healthcare professionals and consumers through the information resources of the Internet. Being a " dutiful " American-raised mother, I asked our dentist about flouride a few years ago and he laughed at me for having asked, saying that flouride is not added to our acqueduct water supply and that we do not need to give the kids flouride supplements at all. I will offer that we do not live in the US and that professional opinions on this subject do vary depending on where in the world you live. They DO however put flouride in most toothpastes here just the same, although we can find some without for both adults and kids. We're currently using Thieves toothpastes from Living Young, but they are very spicey and I would not recommend them for small children. ____________________________________________________________ GET FREE 5GB EMAIL - Check out spam free email with many cool features! Guest guest
There are MANY dentists who no longer recommend fluoride for children or adults -- mine included.
