Guest guest
What is more offensive than what they put in our food is the way the government allows them to hide suspect ingredients. MSG and HFCS can be hidden in " natural flavors " . Dairy products in particular practically have a free pass. Many people who think they are dairy intolerant might actually be intolerant to one or more additives. For example, most milk that is not whole milk is preserved with BHT. I bet nobody has ever seen that on a milk label. When we were drinking dairy, we bought an organic brand that was confirmed to have no BHT. We buy the Feingold program foodlist because they research the foods. I have found foods sold at Whole Foods listed in the foodlist that have HFCS and MSG, but not listed on the label. (Whole Foods has a list of dozens of additives that they refuse to carry, including HFCS and MSG. I always complain when I find an offender, and they always pull it from the shelf of my store.) > > , it is amazing when you look at the ingredient labels, how many foods > and drinks have artifical coloring, dyes, etc in them. Guest guest
The touching themselves a lot and inability to stop sounds like yeast. My son wakes this way and on a bad day he sneaks off to do it. This happens if he gets calmag and on other occasions that sadly seem to back up my fluoride theory...something I so do not want to be right about. Guest guest
Only one of my four boys does this. He just started doing it about three weeks ago. I was thinking it was a yeast or urinary crystals. I am keeping an eye on it. We will see the doctor soon. I am sure she will want to investigate it too. Her son had no speech until 4. Coincidently, he had kidney issues that was treated with immune suppressants. Once he began the meds, his speech came within a few days. She always suspected some sort of relationship. I've assumed that *most* of the issues they've been referring to regarding yeast are more along the lines of a systemic or whole-body yeast infection, which would leave the child pretty much feeling itchy and " ick " all over. when I think of it, the private parts itching (in that respect) makes perfect sense. anyhoo-- that was my impression-- one of them can correct me if I'm wrong becky **************Ideas to please picky eaters. Guest guest
It is true that all boys touch themselves, but the yeasty touching is different. It's not that casual, exploratory " look what I have in my pants " touching. It's more itchy-type touching. Also, any increase in activity in a prepubescent boy is an indicator of something going on. My son is generally not a big toucher in that area, so that's why I noticed it. I have heard some autistic kids seem like they are doing something sexual, when in fact they are just crazy with itchiness. Sorry to any who find this topic gross. Guest guest
I don't have a link...yet, but Dr. Bock writes the below (snipped) comments on the subject. The masturbation as it relates to discomfort caused by intestinal or systemic yeast in boys and girls is well-known in the world of people treating their children for candida..my son did it, too, during the worst part of his yeast die-off and treatment. I'll ask around and see if some of the medical research gurus can furnish some more concrete references. http://www.autismhelpathome.com/biomedical/about_candida.phpSigns and Symptoms of Candida Overgrowth: On Candida Overgrowth Dr. Bock writes: * Itching or redness in any of the mucosal membranes, or in any external body tissue that is in a warm, moist area. * Recurrent vaginal infections, or " jock itch " irritation in males. Guest guest
Yes, and what concerns me in a kid who cannot fully express himself is the other symptoms. Guest guest
Yes, and that is an ingredient in some of the probiotics the kids who can't have milk, take. I tested the yogurt only diet early on when I was testing to be sure milk was a true issue here and unfortunately for us yogurt remained an issue. The SCD folks say the make your own stuff with goats milk should not be an issue but I have not done that. source: pecanbread.org The Vicious Cycle by Elaine Gotschall > > Actually Janice I just thought of it when I went to the fridge -we > eat yogurt very often in our house -even our boys eat yogurt for > lunch many days. Guest guest
Wow .... interesting. My NT son that is five (and can express himself) complains of itchiness there. He says it itches and hurts. But I took him to the good ol pediatrician and he was stumped. I suggested yeast but he said 'no' because it is not red and there is no discharge. He took a urine sample and it was normal. Is there some way to test for yeast in the penis that will not emotionally scar a five year old for the rest of his life? Can you use a yeast cream or should treatment be oral antifungals? Why does it seem to me that mom's know more than docs these days. Michele > > > In a message dated 2/29/2008 8:44:51 A.M. Guest guest
Yeast infections are very complex in nature. When there is a yeast imbalance in the body, there are so many different symptoms associated with the condition. This condition is overlooked and misdiagnosed by doctors due to the multiplicity of symptoms. Their rational is that a person cannot have so many different symptoms associated with one imbalance. Symptoms of a yeast imbalance would include mood swings, irritability, depression, headaches, lethargy, gastritis, colitis, bloated feeling in the stomach, fluid in the ears, various rashes, itches, cirrhosis, acne, floaters or spots in the eyes, blurred vision, excessive tearing, burning of the eyes, dry mouth, cough, bad breath, blisters, sore throat, aching muscles, white patches on skin, various kinds of edema (swelling), joint problems, nasal congestion, stiffness, post nasal drip, cystitis, kidney problems, bladder infections, fatigue, loss of appetite, sleeping problems, numbness, tingling, endometriosis, cysts, cramping, PMS, hay fever, asthma, food sensitivity, hives, thrush (yeast in the mouth), colic and the list goes on. A yeast imbalance if left alone is dangerous and will become debilitating to your health. ilizzy03 wrote: > Honestly, it can be very painful, particularly for these kids...all > the kids who have it, be they apraxic, autistic, or typical. Guest guest
I never said yeast didn't happen! Just not in my house to either me or my two boys or my husband. That doesn't make me myopic - just 'unyeasty' and stating personal facts. May have missed my next post it may be because we eat yogurt often. Also I posted wrong diagnosis to show that there are 17 reasons they list for why one can get itchy...there. Candida was just one of them and it's not one of the hyperlinked reasons. =====
