Hello,

And thanks for your response. The reason I worry a bit is because it

isn't " normal " (i.e most other kids don't need them), and I am

wondering if she may have a neurological deficit.

You may post the question to your online group, and thanks for all

the info!

Subject: ProEfa Supplements

Hello,

I bought your book a few years ago for help with my

young daughter. I couldn't believe the part about fish

oil, but since your raves were so strong, I decided to

try it. I saw a difference in less than two weeks!

They worked, and continue to work wonderfully. But my

daughter is soon to be six, and she still takes the

recommended dose, yet when I try to wean her off of

them, the slurs and the confusion come back quickly

within a week or so. She is almost six years old, and

is in a regular Kindergarten class at school and does

very well. But why does she still need the fish oil

when she has been taking them for about three years

and speaks fine when on them? Is this what you or your

readers have experienced? I really don't know what to

do and I am becoming concerned that she will need to

take fish oil supplements the rest of her life. She

did have a speech therapist, and sees a pediatrician

for her checkups, but there really isn't a

professional in the area ( that I know of ) who works

with or knows about this issue. She has been tested

and does not have any speech disorder; only diagnosed

as having a slight language delay. And I feel that has

pretty much vanished when she is on the fish oil. Have

you any ideas or have you heard of this before? I live

in the Richmond, VA area so any recommendations you

have or any referrels you know of, I would appreciate.

Thanks,

Tricia

PS. Hope things continue to be well with you and your

family.

My quick answer to her offlist

I wondered the same thing when Tanner was 9 even and in ONE DAY without the oils

we saw regressions! I remember speaking to Dr. Martha Herbert and she said the

following which really hit home for me. ( Dr. Herbert is a pediatric

neurologist from Harvard) " why are you even trying to stop the fish oils? They

are essential to the human body but our bodies can't produce them, we need to

consume them -but they are virtually lacking in our diets today. I know I feel

better when I take them " And I said " Wow that's true " As it ends up my dad

died of a heart attack and my father in law died of a heart attack - both at a

young age -and my husband at the same young age had a heart attack...and didn't

die. My husband has been on fish oils the last few years due to Tanner and

there is a 75 percent decrease or something crazy high like that in fatal heart

attacks in those who supplement with fish oils. So even more so in our family

with my boys genetic history that even with not being apraxic or ADD they both

should take fish oils for life and I told them that. On the other hand -around

the age of 13 or something if speech is normalized I heard that could be an age

where you can stop them.
