[ ] any other dvds for apraxic kid?

Hello All,

we have done the baby bumble bee and Baby Einstein. My husband is so

tired of them! Any suggestions of other good dvds for apraxic kids?

We have signing time too. Thanks,

Kathy and

I found a great DVD series called " Watch me Learn " .  They are geared more toward

children with autism, but the social phrases and word labeling in the videos

seem that they would be helpful with anyone with communication issues.  We

orginally got them for my older son with an ASD diagnosis, but have been using

them with our younger language delayed children as well.

We found the dvd's for the Baby Senses books by Dr. S. Beaumont were awesome for

Ethan. They showed children's mouths actually making sounds...like the " p "

sound. A free dvd comes with the " Look! I'm talking! " book. Ethan watched this

so closely and then before we knew it he was saying the sounds and new words!

The book series is taste, hearing, sight, touch, smell, and speech. There were

two dvds out a few years ago. The last I checked though they could be purchased

through amazon.

Hope you like them!

How about the bounce videos? They are technically for spectrum kids but

are helpful to apraxics.

I've not been following this thread, but if Signing Times DVDs have not been

mentioned they are pretty good for any kid really. teaches signing, but in a

very fun way and also teaches talking.  My daughter does both, taught herself

many signs, over 300 by now and many more I don't know probably, but she also

tries to say the word because it is in context and the music is fun and

engaging. These definitely get my vote before any of the Bumble Bee and Baby

Einstein ones plus these are also for older kids and they teach counting, and

ABCs and colors and many useful concepts both in sign language and verbal

language.

If anybody else mentioned them sorry, I just read this and threw my 2 cents in

" Parents are also using Signing Time to communicate with children

with special needs. Kei Malone, a mother in Massachusetts

explains, " When my son , who has Down syndrome, spelled the

word `red' with the refrigerator magnets, signed each letter, and

then signed `red,' I was blown away. He was only 4 ½ years old at the

time and the fact that he has Down syndrome and verbal apraxia too,

just emphasized that signing with him since he was an infant was the

right thing to do. "

And from that same press release:

" Salt Lake City, UT (Vocus/PRWEB ) March 11, 2008 -- Yesterday

morning viewers of NBC's Today Show watched in awe as 17-month-old

Barrett read to them. 's parents attribute her

early reading in part to Signing Time, the television and DVD series

that teaches young children to communicate using American Sign

Language (ASL).

According to the Today Show, " Katy Barrett and her husband, ,

are speech pathologists, and when was born they started

teaching her sign language along with spoken language. They read to

her often, and her favorite television program — the only one her

parents let her watch — was a PBS show called `Signing Time,' which

teaches kids sign language. "

Did anyone see this baby reading?!!!

-Hi there,

my 3.5 yr son loves The Letter Factory and The talking words factory,

both by Leap Frog. It is a fun dvd and my son repeats all the

letters, and imitates the gestures the frog characters do--it is

really cute. You can get it from your library, and I ordered our copy

from walmart.com---it was only $8.
