Guest guest
Hello Families Network! Sorry to hit you with two emails in one week, but a lot has been going on over the last few days. As many of you may have already heard, yesterday Assemblyman Louis Greenwald held a press conference regarding a bill he is introducing calling for closure of 5 of the State's 7 developmental centers in the next five years. The text of the bill has not yet been made public, but some stories have been in the press including this one by the Star Ledger - same story ran in the Trenton Times. The Arc of New Jersey supports any effort to begin the dialogue of closing state institutions for individuals with developmental disabilities and applauds Assemblyman Greenwald for his efforts in this area. We believe that individuals can be served in community settings and should have that option. While we do have some concerns about the specifics of this legislation, we look forward to working with the rest of the community and the Legislature on this important issue. I will certainly let you know as we get more information about this issue. Have a wonderful weekend!
