We went to Raleigh Neurology and saw Dr. Mark Clayton.  Our speech therapist

recommended seeing Dr. Kristi Milowic at Raleigh Neurology, but we were on her

waiting list for 6 months and told it would be at least another 2 months of

waiting.  Dr. Clayton is new and didn't have a waiting list last month.

Good luck!

Subject: [ ] NC speech pathologist for Apraxia??????

I have been attempting to find a speech pathologists to evaluate my

son for verbal apraxia. I had switched to one who proclaimed to be

knowledgeable after our first pathologists and neurologist suspected

apraxia. However, I found out, a year later, that her expertise

consisted of a few workshops and no personal experience. So, I'm

looking for someone to evaluate my son that is knowledgeable and

experienced. I live in NC and so far have only found three in

Raleigh...all 3 with the same office. I live near Albemarle,

Salisbury, and Concord going from closest to farthest.

If anyone has any suggestions on where I may be able to locate

someone, please let me know. Thank you.

Hmmm...well, I don't know how " official " this was.  Our speech therapist

suspected apraxia for a long time and recommended that neurologist.  We went to

the doctor and he asked us many questions about our son, and he said it

" sounded " like apraxia.  Our son was uncooperative, as he tends to be with

strangers, so he didn't evaluate him.   I asked the doctor to put it in writing

and he wrote up our whole conversation and his assessment in a 6 page letter.  I

made a copy of it and gave it to the speech therapist, so that the school has a

record of that.

I'm not sure if that's how apraxia diagnoses are usually made.  ???
