Guest guest
Because I couldn't really get input here, I called our pediatrician and spoke to him about the study linking Vitamin E to lung cancer. I was pleasantly surprised that he did know about the study and he did offer up some details that showed that he was actually somewhat familiar with it. He was initially very encouraging, telling me that it was just one study, and that he knew of no other studies showing any negative effects of Vitamin E. However, when I told he I was not giving the recommended daily requirement for a child (30 IU?) but up to 800 IU a day -- he said he did not believe that was a safe amount. He strongly recommended I stop supplemental Vitamin E at those levels. Has anyone else asked their doctor about this? This doctor initially didn't know anything about fish oil, but did look at the information I brought him, and has signed on, if not necessarily encouraged, the use of fish oil. (Actually, he does encourage fish oil, but candidly said he would not have recommended the levels I was giving without seeing the information that I provided him.) I put this in only to show that he is more open-minded than some doctors that I have dealt with.
