Guest guest
Hi my name is and my wonderful 3.5 year old son is . I adopted Ben from Guatemala as a single Mom. I made 2 trips to Guatemala. The first to visit my son when he was 5 months old and a second time to bring him home at 7 months. I live in Rockland County, NY zip 10989 if that helps. I am reaching out to Mom's/Dad's of children with apraxia. Although I have been banging my head against a wall I still don't have a clear direction. I am sending out the paperwork to Dr. Agin in the hopes of getting some much needed answers. I had several visits to a nuro Dr. at a well known children's hosp and the only dx I got was severly delayed. I know Ben has apraxia. What I don't know is what else is going on. Everytime I talk to an OT or the director of his full day center based program I am told that it is all motor or there is more going on than just his speech. I KNOW THERE IS MORE GOING ON! HELP ME HELP MY SON! He is my heart and I guess I need some human contact with parents who can understand, not judge and just be ok with Ben. I guess I am feeling a little out of sorts. We are working on toilet training, talking, fine and gross motor things. I ramble. Thanks, I look forward to hearing back.

Guest guest
Hi Becky, thanks for the e-mail and interest. Let me first say that Ben is very cute, out going little boy who has a wonderful sense of humor. He hugs and gives kisses, he smiles almost all the time. Now he is getting more and more frustrated and that is what concerns me the most. Ben has a Fisher Price laptop and when I am typing he runs to get his laptop and we sit side by side and work. lol. He is here at my side right now pushing the letter " j, jet " on his laptop. Cute huh? Ben does?repetive things like??filling up a cup with water and dumping?it and filling?it up again?and dumping. He can do this for?a long time and he gets angry when I make him stop. He also likes to flick things like a table cloth, shirt or wash cloth (he has moved to flicking my hands, it drives me nuts! lol).?Everything goes in his mouth, he mouths everything, my arm, my hand, clay, blocks.....! Ben will not work on puzzles, he won't point to animals even though I am pretty sure he knows what they are. He just started to point to something, Ben will be 4 in January. He has very few words, Mommy, more, meow, bye, and ruff, approximates open and thank you.?He?signs: please, more, all done. Blows kisses? Guest guest
I can feel your pain, my daughter was the same way at 3 yrs old. I found a center for disablilty class in glenville NY where there was only 8 students the class focused on speech but she also had ot and pt there that 1 yr of preschool changed her life. She attended regular kindergarten last year and althought she did very well she still struggles with writing and reading so we are holding her back and she will do kindergarten again. During preschool I used a sight call starfall at home with her and now she knows hao to use a computer. I think you should look for a preschool class like the one she went to. One year made a drastic change for her so it is possible. Keep your hopes high stay informed and work at home with him as much as possible. This is just my oppinion but it worked for my little girl who just turned 6, and while some people will never know how hard she has had to work I am so proud of her and the teachers that took there time to get her where she is today and I now believe we will overcome this has faith. Things seemed to just fall in place when they are ready for it.
