Guest guest
I had almost run out of Tanner's vitamin E. We use the High Gamma E Tocopherol from Vitamin World which has a 1/1 ratio of alpha to gamma E. 200 of each. The one time I raised Tanner's alpha and not the gamma he regressed so I know for him for some reason and some of the older children like him they need that 1/1 ratio of alpha to gamma. Don't know why. Anyway I was running low on Tanner's vitamin E and didn't feel like stopping at the mall (which is where my Vitamin World is) so instead stopped at Vitamin Shoppe right outside the mall and found " Unique E " To me it looked kind of the same -but twice as expensive- but figured I'd try it. here is the dosage Nutrition Information: Each capsule of Unique E Complex contains 400 IU of d-alpha tocopherol, the anti-thrombosis factor, and at least 36% d-gamma tocopherol (300 mg), with 132 mg of d-delta and d-beta tocopherol. The d-gamma, d-beta, and d-delta tocopherol are the critical antioxidants that protect against harmful free radicals. Used it for just 3 days and Tanner last night I noticed Tanner was unusually " bumpy " when he tried to talk. I also noticed that morning he didn't want to take his fish oils but didn't know why. When I questioned him about him being " bumpy " Tanner said it was because of the fish oils and he didn't want to take them anymore because as soon as he took them he had trouble talking and my speech (he said) is " shot to heck! " So I said calmly " Tanner you've been speaking great for years now and I only noticed you being bumpy tonight. How long have you noticed it? So he said the last few days every time he took his fish oils. That's when it hit me and I said " Tanner it's not the fish oil it's your vitamin E! Remember I bought that new one and was giving you 2 capsules of that and 2 capsules of your other one because we were running low? " (I'm pretty good about switching oils for my kids so knew not to go cold turkey and just cut the dosage 1/2 and still had enough for at least a week of the high gamma e with the 1/2 dosage) I had already stopped and picked up a bottle of the High Gamma E Tocopherol from Vitamin World last I was at the mall- not because I had noticed anything but because it was so much cheaper and didn't notice any added benefit to the unique E. So this morning I (of course) gave Tanner his 4 capsules of the High Gamma E Tocopherol and all is back to normal with his speech. It did look like the unique E was around the same -the gamma was just a bit lower so don't know if it's something else? It's funny that Tanner would blame the fish oils when he's been on them since before 3 years old (he's just turned 12) and the vitamin E only for the past few -but Tanner LOVES the vitamin E. I had to explain to him that just like fish oils there are different formulas of vitamin E and for whatever reason he appears to need a 1/1 ratio of the alpha to the gamma. Unlike the fish oils we don't know as much here about the differences in formula and dosage yet -and many of us use different brands. I know some here use the unique E or so I thought which was one of the reasons I bought it. unique E http://www.drrons.com/unique-e.htm Tanner's high gamma http://www.vitaminworld.com/pages/file.asp?PID=1111 & CID=781 & CPID=2112 Has anyone else here noticed what I did with changes in the brand of E? =====
