Guest guest
Hi everyone, I have a 25 month old who has been essentially nonverbal. Back in October I started him on Omega 3-6-9, 1 capsule/day, and while I did see some nice improvement in his attention, I did not see the language surge I was hoping for. Over Christmas we ran out, and then we all got really sick, so it took a couple weeks until we made it out to get more capsules. We just started up again a few days ago, and this time I am seeing a huge language surge! Suddenly he is babbling and trying to copy words...this is a huge and wonderful difference! Of course, I'm just thrilled, but I was wondering, is this unusual? I guess I thought if a child was not a responder to fish oil, he was just not a responder and never would be. I was so surprised to see this huge surge this time. Has anyone else experienced this? Corie
Guest guest
I am experiencing the same thing with my almost three year old. He is not taking anything but melatonin to help him sleep. He suddenly started talking and copying out of the blue about a month ago and hasn't stopped yet. Maybe it was just time for a developmental growth spurt. Enjoy it, regardless of the reasons. Guest guest
Joy, how great that your son has started talking and copying too!! I guess my little guy's language surge might be a developmental growth spurt too...I guess I'm just trying to figure out whether to give any credit to the fish oil. In any case, I am enjoying it so much...it's so great after so much silence to hear his voice!! Guest guest
Fish oils are the Rodney Dangerfield of therapeutic treatments. No respect and they have been one of the best things Mother Nature has brought us to help our children in my opinion. Perhaps they are too inexpensive and easy for anyone to actually believe it could be them that are making the difference. Yes it's possible that almost all of us that starts our child on fish oil sees a surge in speech in a day to three weeks almost across the board due to coincidence. Possible but not probable. If it was just you Corie...or just you Joy -you were the first 2, we weren't doing this for a decade -I'd agree -coincidence. But we all credit the surge to something else- developmental, therapy, something you've been working on for awhile and he just got it. But there's been thousands of us reporting the same for a decade now! My advice -stop the oils and learn the hard way what it is. Don't underestimate the power of the oils- and trust me if it was from the oils taking them off even for a week is one of the hardest and saddest things you'll ever do and you'll never want to do it again. To watch your child lose all the new sounds and words he just acquired is hard enough -but it's clear that the child is aware that he lost it -and that's just not right. We took my son Tanner off the oils for the week he was going through testing for preschool IEP reasons -horrible!!! It's not all in the book The LCP Solution but it's in the archives. Heartbreaking and if you want me to post it I will -again I have archives from me and others that go back ten years. BTW to this day Tanner regresses off his oils. (and we know if he doesn't take them even from one day!) From The LCP Solution book DYSPRAXIA/APRAXIA THE " LELLOW " BREAKTHROUGH Three-year-old Tanner, standing in the bathroom of his family's New Jersey home picked up a pink comb, pointed to a yellow stripe that ran through it, and said, " Lellow. " It was the first 'real' word he had ever spoken and it came after just three weeks of supplementation. " I almost fell over, " says his delighted mother,
Guest guest
, thank you for your insight. Have you heard of children who don't respond to fish oil initially respond on another attempt? I do feel like it is the fish oil that is helping my son, I was just surprised because it didn't help him the first time. Now frankly I'm afraid to take him off the fish oil...maybe next time it wouldn't help him again? I can imagine it was so heartbreaking for you to see Tanner regress. I love hearing my son's voice and I'm so afraid to do anything that might silence him again. Each time before I thought he was making a bit of progress, it fizzled. (E.g. He would say a word and I would get so excited, but then he would never say the word again. He had a rotating vocabulary of one or two word approximations...almost always " ba " ... with slight vowel changes.) But this surge is qualitatively different. He tried to say about 20 words on his 3rd day on fish oil! Thanks for your thoughts, Corie > > Fish oils are the Rodney Dangerfield of therapeutic treatments.
