Jewish Family Service Launches Innovative Employment Program for Young Adults with Asperger's Syndrome Jewish Family Service (JFS) is proud to announce it will be starting a comprehensive employment program to help young adults with Asperger's Syndrome (AS) reach their highest level of career achievement. AS, a term applied to the high functioning end of the autistic spectrum, impairs an individual's ability to relate socially with others. The 16-week comprehensive program will offer young adults with AS a full range of individualized counseling, employment and support services. It will include career assessments, job search coaching and workshops, resume preparation, interview instruction, job training referrals, job placement and support, social skills training, psychotherapy, support groups for the young adults and their parents, a drop-in computer lab and one year of post job placement support. The specialized curriculum will enable participants to develop the skills needed to achieve and sustain gainful employment. A primary goal of the program will be developing partnerships with large corporations and small businesses. These partnerships will be key in successfully matching program participants with employment. Each employer will also be educated about the unique strengths and skills the AS employee will contribute to their workplace. This new venture for young adults with Asperger's Syndrome will be another valuable program of JFS' Job Search Network, which has been providing an extensive array of employment services for 13 years. With a 75% success rate, the Job Search Network has guided over 1,200 individuals into gainful employment. Jewish Family Service, a non-sectarian not-for-profit agency, helps more than 3000 people a year. Based upon the Jewish tradition and values, the mission of Jewish Family Service is to strengthen and preserve the well-being of individuals and families; to help them effectively meet the challenges and changes through life by providing quality human services and professional counseling to all who call upon its services. For more information, or to enroll in JFS' new program for young adults with Asperger's Syndrome, call 201-837-9090. The program will begin on January 5, 2009 and space is limited. Scholarships are available. Jewish Family Service is located at 1485 Teaneck Road, Teaneck, NJ.
