Rabin/Peres

Tuesday, April 1

JCC at 3:00pm

NEW JERSEY PREMIERE

Director: Arik Henig /Israel /2007/88 minutes / Beta SP /Hebrew with

English subtitles

This fast-paced documentary provides us with an insider's look at the

complicated professional and personal relationship between two legendary

Israeli leaders: Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres. Through previously unseen

footage and exclusive interviews, the director - who had a decades-long

collaboration with Rabin - gives us unprecedented access to these two

colleagues and adversarieswhose actions so dramatically shaped the

contemporary Middle East. This balanced portrait provides depth and context

to the development of modern Israel, and is a " must-see " for all junkies of

Israeli politics.

" Director Arik Henig takes viewers through the interweaving history of the

State of Israel and the two men who planned to lead it, interviewing people

close to Rabin and Peres to put the historical events and their role in

perspective .. Henig, who worked on the documentary for five years, is known

for his documentaries on sports. The battle he portrays between Rabin and

Peres is every bit as nasty as the ultimate sports rivalry. "

Making Trouble

Thursday, April 3

JCC at 12:30pm

NEW JERSEY PREMIERE -ENCORE PRESENTATION

Director: Talbot/United States/ 2006/86 minutes/ Beta SP/English

When we think of Jewish comics, we usually think of male comics, with their

humor that depicted Jewish mothers and young Jewish girls as selfish and

manipulative. It took a long line of Jewish women - Molly Picon, Fanny

Brice, Sophie Tucker, Joan Rivers, Gilda Radner and Wasserstein - who

had show business in their hearts and souls to turn this around. This

hilarious and heartwarming tribute captures their unique stories in a way

that demonstrates to today's audiences their enduring importance and their

singular place in the history of Jewish women in the 20th century.

From an unpredictable and original angle, with wisdom and humor, the film

sheds light on issues of feminine and Jewish identity in the United

States. - Jerusalem International Film Festival
