Guest guest
Call me a hypocrite, because I have no problem passing on used shoes, but I don't usually accept them. (The only exception is holiday shoes or snow boots that will only be worn a few times). My daughter is finally growing out of her clumsiness - she has mild hypotonia, some motor planning issues, and would walk in-toed and trip frequently (she also has a speech delay, and a few other issues, and we're in the process of testing her for visual processing disorder, but that's off topic). Anyway, I felt that in new shoes, only her feet " shaped " them, and maybe it was less damaging than what others wore. Since my son was a bit behind in walking as well, I felt comfortable knowing that they both got quality shoes. > > It is good to be green but wearing used shoes can hurt your feet and you > could get athletes foot. Guest guest
My husband and I would love to have another child but are experiencing 'secondary infertility' and because of the cost of our ONE specail needs son , we can't afford fertility treatments!! Then again we are not on food stamps & disability & medicaid to cover all of our costs!!
Guest guest
Can I just say " me too " ? I don't know why we all grabbed on to this story. We clearly are all are passionate about the children -have mixed emotions about the mother -but I'd say most of us think she's mentally unstable. 6 children - 3 special needs children. One with autism. One with ADHD. One with a speech delay. To me as I've learned more about this story- I've latched on to the child with the speech delay -the one I read about in that one complaint -the only place I read about that child since nobody else mentions it. The one that isn't a preemie. Not autistic. Not ADHD -will someone be there to advocate for that child? To find out why he or she isn't talking? Is it possible that the one with the " speech delay " is apraxic? I think so -but who knows? When the 8 preemies come home they'll all be special needs to some extent and I'm sure will get the treatments they need -the world will make sure of it as they'll grow up in the limelight if the mother gets her way. The child with autism I'm sure is getting some type of appropriate therapies...but will anyone be there for the child who only has the " speech delay? " ? I pray the " speech delay " child with all this media attention will get the help he or she needs -but probably as always the " speech delay " child will continue not to be the focus ...as all the media has talked about is the child with autism and the preemies. They all deserve a voice -including 'all' those that don't have the ability to speak for themselves yet. =====
Guest guest
Is the autistic boy getting any services or therapy? I saw them on Dateline and they showed the autistic boy and he was walking around in circles, but they didn't say if he's on a program or anything. He should be. Autistic children usually have speech delays too, in addition to many other problems. They are often diagnosed with Apraxia. The mom just seems so irresponsible. I feel sorry for those 8 babies and hope they seriously don't let her take them home. > > Can I just say " me too " ? I don't know why we all grabbed on > to this story. Guest guest
I wanted to let you know that Gloria Alred has offered the octuplets and there siblings 24 hour round the clock nursing care and therapy through Angels in Waiting. This is a better solution. They can stay together and will not have to be seperated. Amen. **************A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. See yours in just 2 easy steps! Guest guest
But for most people who are perfectly healthy-- used shoes shouldn't be a problem. As far as I know, the Duggar family (which started the shoe conversation) has no health concerns for their children. Used shoes shouldn't be a problem. They also mentioned buying new, and passing down to younger children in their family. I can't see this being a problem either-- unless the child has issues. for instance-- Arielle is my oldest and she has shoe inserts (orthotics) so she has always had her own new. (she's the oldest anyway so that's the way it would work. LOL) None of her shoes have been passed down to the other girls. The two other girls have shared and swapped shoes back and forth and neither have ortho issues, so it's perfectly fine. The boys-- same thing-- with the exception of ASA, who has had orthotics and braces, and of course always needs his own. Now to add his diabetes and foot care being essential to his health-- he will always need his own/new shoes. But if a person is perfectly healthy and has no problems-- things really shouldn't be a problem. I saw that show that the other poster talked about, and saw the shoes that they bought " used " from a consignment store-- they looked all but brand new to me-- and you'd be able to see if there were issues with them Becky In a message dated 2/19/2009 9:38:10 P.M. While I try to be green, I wouldn`t consider used shoes in my household unless I knew the previous owner personally..Whi **************Need a job? Find an employment agency near you. Guest guest
Well-- I pray for the best for your family. I'm not sure that my story will encourage you or not-- but having 8 kids, people always assume that I take fertility for granted. It couldn't be further from the truth-- as I feel every baby is a miracle in itself-- but when you add other issues on top of a typical woman's fertility, it's just a miracle. anyway-- I won't go into great detail now, but if you want more-- I can always share more thoughts. I was 18 (almost 19) when I got pregnant with my first child. I was unwed and it was definitely what is called a crisis pregnancy. Very unexpected and not planned by me. (however, of course planned by God-- without a doubt!) Before I got married to my husband, I had consulted a specialist for things that I was having troubles with (girl-wise and hormonally etc). And I was outright told that I would *NEVER* be able to conceive a child naturally on my own. Medically speaking-- this information was correct, and they were right, medically speaking, I would be " barren " unless I sought medical intervention, and even then, it wasn't guaranteed. I always felt that I was " meant to have kids " -- so I just trusted that the " big guy " upstairs knew what he was doing. years later-- I become pregnant with my 2nd child (my dh's and my 1st together). It was a true miracle and we have no idea how it happened. Then I become almost instantly pregnant , and I lost the baby in the 2nd trimester. Turns out now medically speaking, I guess I could get pregnant easily enough, but now I just couldn't STAY pregnant. Then I got pregnant with my #3 who wouldn't have been here if I didn't lose the previous baby. Again-- a total miracle that I got pregnant at that time, because again, medically speaking, it was an impossibility. But it happened. Then we had our #4 (a son) so then we tried for several years-- without success. Here I was, a mom to 4 kids with secondary infertility-- without explanation. The Dr offered to intervene with hormones-- and we declined, just again, trusting that God knew what was going on. Sure enough-- we have then had 4 more sons. All I can say is that it's all God at this point. Every pregnancy a blessing-- every child a bigger blessing. I went from a crisis pregnancy as an unwed mom, to medically infertile, to fertile but not able to hold onto a pregnancy without medical intervention, to secondary infertility, to fertile again and still unable to hold a pregnancy without intervention-- etc. So take heart--- it's very possible that you'll have another baby-- stranger things have happened! Good luck! Becky In a message dated 2/19/2009 11:59:37 P.M. Guest guest
Actually, the Angels in Waiting can provide the care which consist of 12 people around the clock 7 days a week, but only if enough donations come in. It would cost the agency 135,000 to do this, not free. > > I think that this is an amazing offer-- and I think that the mother is > blessed to have this available > > Becky > > > In a message dated 2/20/2009 9:22:53 A.M.
