Guest guest
I have never heard of this but I will say that Dr. Berard has success with autism. His book, titled Hearing Equals Behavior, does document one case of a cure. BTW, Maddy is saying new words in 10 day's time, and the words are all spontaneous, not prompted after completing his 10 day program, www.aithelps.com. It is looking very, very promising for her. Happy New Year. The information transmitted is intended only for the person or entity to which it is addressed and may contain confidential, proprietary, and/or privileged material. I'm contemplating attending one and would love to hear opinions on if the protocols help at all, especially with speech (our son is 2 1/2 and has moderate apraxia and mild PDD-NOS). Many thanks! B. Guest guest
I can't recall the reason for your child's speech issue but certainly help would depend on the diagnosis. If it's an impairment of speech - therapy is always the most important -and we cover the importance of fish oil in The Late Talker book too. Or is your child not talking due to autism alone with no impairment of speech? I don't believe I've ever heard of this workshop prior - but did a quick search and found a " reversing autism " website if that's it which will send the video for a donation ($45 or more) -and the following article about this topic from " mindlessmommy.com " which has a thousand dollar a workshop price tag for " reversing autism " If it's the thousand dollar workshop I could tell you a few proven therapies that I know from history parents recommend if it's speech improvement you are looking for. (for less than a thousand) From mindlessmommy.com (article that I think waters down to " paying more doesn't always mean it's better " ) " The Body Ecology Diet - We Have Answers to Heal Your Gut…Prevent & Reverse Autism Huh? Prevent autism? I understand that a lot of people on the spectrum also have gastrointestinal issues but prevent autism? So I decided to check out the Body Ecology Diet website and there is a link to Autism & ADD with information on a three day workshop - " Taking the Mystery Out of Autism. " Okay, that doesn't sound too bad - everyone and their mom is hosting an autism workshop these days. So I decide to look at the brochure (just curious, mind you) and guess what the price tag on this three day workshop is? $999. Yup, that's right - a smooth thousand dollars to have the privilege of attending a workshop " based on the teachings of Donna Gates, M.Ed. and Leonard , MD. " So the Body Ecology Diet was created by a person with a Master's in Education? Odd. Back to the $1k price tag - that is outrageous. Here are some comparisons: Autism Society of America, four-day conference, $225; DAN! Conference, three days, $425; Autism Summit 2008, three days, $395. Now I'm not saying any one of these conferences is a great place to go but just comparing apples to apples…one autism conference/workshop to another. I may be off base but it sounds like the Body Ecology Diet is just another way for people to profit off of the whole hyped up autism issue. http://www.mindlessmommy.com/category/autism =====
Guest guest
Thanks for the response, ! Our son 's PDD-NOS is very mild, so we're mainly focused on the apraxia. We've seen great improvement over the last few months, I think all due to preschool, lots of speech therapy (he works with 2 therapists, one at school who uses Kaufman, and one privately who uses PROMPT), suggestions from " The Late Talker " , and the fish oils. We're also going to be starting the DAN! protocol, so hopefully we'll see some speech gains with that, too. And thanks to yours and so many parents' great suggestions in the past, the speech is coming, slowly but surely. Just yesterday he actually said, " Mo cake, peeze " ( " more cake, please " ), so I couldn't say no to allowing a second helping of dessert, when just several months ago, he couldn't even say these words, let alone put them together in such a polite request.  :-)  The workshop is from the website you mentioned first, I had heard about it because it's a 2-day workshop/conference that's being offered right in our area (northern VA). The actual conference is $250, which is definitely a good chunk of change, but I guess as conferences go, it's not incredibly outrageous.  If I do go and learn anything that helps our little guy even more with speech, I'll definitely keep you all posted. Many thanks again!
