My twins diagnosed with apraxia at 2 1/2 went to preschool hand program and were

classified " eligible for preschool handicapped " . When they went to Kindergarten

their classification became " communication impaired " .? I believe that they had

to fail 2 language tests that the SLP gave them.? I am thinking that if they

pass these tests that they would remain SLD as I don't want them to lose the

classification at this point.? Also if there was a health issue (in my case

there is not) a health impaired classification could be used.? If there many

disabilities then I would think the school would use a multiple disabled

classification. In the school where I work they use the one that deals with the

disability that has the most impact on the student ....the one where his

academic/social etc needs would best be met---so placement is also a

consideration.? Hope that made sense as I am running out the door, but wanted to

write first.
