Guest guest
: Actually the polio shot isn't a shot it is an oral liquid. Also, I was lucky enough to be able to get a blood titer which tells you if your child has any immunities left from the previous MMR. My son just needed the mumps shot. Now they are telling me at the clinic he goes to that they don't separate them anymore like that, so we are lucky we got it when they did do that. I don't know what the rules are for the state you live, but in Minnesota where we live you don't have to get the shots, you need a notarized exemption. I believe in getting the shots, and I will but they are going to be spread out, he needs the chicken pox, the polio, DTP. It is so hard with these shot things. My son is five with apraxia and on the autism spectrum. I have been agonizing over the flu shot, He had an upper respiratory flu I suspect and missed two weeks of school. I hope he does not get it again, I have heard the flu strain this year isn't one where you throw up. It is so hard, I know exactly what you mean when you worry about regression. I have heard just do what is in your heart and what your gut feelings are. Jen **************New year...new news. Be the first to know what is making headlines. Guest guest
Hi , Get your son an MMR titer test...it tests for MMR antibodies, and if he has enough, he won't need the booster shot (95% of children do end up having enough antibodies...so you definitely don't want him getting the booster if he's already immune, IMO). B. From: liisaann2003 <LiisaAnn@...> Subject: [ ] mmr shot at five yrs. Date: Wednesday, January 7, 2009, 7:48 AM I have notified to update my sons' shot record. I'm pretty sure he is due for the mmr and polio shots. He didn't get any shots while he was four yrs old. I think he needs these shots before he'll enter kindergarten this fall/ 09. I've heard some cases of major regression in four year olds after the mmr shot. Has anyone ever heard of that for a five year old? I'm very interested to know, pls respond if you have any thoughts on this. thx. M.
Guest guest
When my dd who is now 7 had those sets of shots.. There were a ton.. She developed a high fever of which they could not tell what it was.. Within a week of the shots.. And then had several seizures afterwards due to high fevers that we could not account for why she would spike the fever and then have the seizure.. I don't recall any regression at all with the shots on any of my kids though.. Also the spot where she got one shot made her upper arm swollen and red.. Most of the upper arm at that. Guest guest
Actually the polio vaccine comes in two forms now. I know this due to my son was born in 1998. He has only had the four IPV shots for polio for the vaciination. It is i9n deed a shot it is called IPV and is given in four shots. I requested the shot when they tried to give my son the first one as an oral vaccine. I stopped the nurse and had a fit and told her no oral vaccines were to be given to my son.Only the shot. I requested the IPv one. My son has had all 4 of the vaccines. He has had no effects from it. Just the redness from the shot. My two nephews one is 21 months and the other is going to be 3 on the 21st. They both had the IPV for the polio vaccine doses so far. In fact the state where I live New Hampshire offers both the oral and shot for polio. However my pediatricians office now only does the IPV shot for the vaccine. I asked them before my sister had my oldest nephews first vaccines done. So far both of them have had no effects from the vaccines either both also fully immunized so far. Guest guest
jennyjudy@... wrote > Actually the polio shot isn't a shot it is an oral liquid. The live polio vaccine is an oral liquid...if a child gets that one be aware that the polio virus will shed in the feces and bodily fluids for a period after that dose. The newer polio vaccines used in North America and Europe, at least, are the inactivated polio virus ones and they really are shots and are supposed to be safer. They apparently are giving the oral liquid polio shots in Africa and India and there's lots of controversy over many children becoming ill there afterwards. Back in 2000-2001 before we stopped vaccinating my older son (born in 2000), he had received the IPV polio shot (which had recently come out but on the second dose and without my permission they gave him live polio oral drops - like I got as a child many moons ago (boy was I angry). The 3rd dose was the IPV shot again. We never finished the 4th dose because he became ill (not from the polio vaccine I don't think) but he had enough neurological and immune issues to warrant not giving any more vaccines of any kind (he's diagnosed with PDD-NOS, apraxia and heavy metal contamination/detox issues). > Now they are telling me at the clinic he goes to that they don't separate them any more (referring to MMR) This is because Merck just announced they are stopping production of the separate MMR component vaccines and most of the independent pharmacies where you could have ordered them have no more individiual vaccines to sell. Very controversial topic for those who would have chosen to spread out vaccines for valid reasons...forcing families to choose ALL or NOTHING. We opted not to do MMR for our kids because my sister's son, who's 15 now was damaged by the MMR 13 years ago - the measles remained active in his intestines (classic Wakefield type problems) and caused some serious intestinal, neurological and physical brain damage.
