I know it's not really magic fish oil and there is a medical/scientific reason for why they " work " ...but I still love my then 5 year old Dakota's explanation for why back when they first worked for Tanner. " Mommy I think they put magic sprinkles in the fish oil that make Tanner talk. I think it's magic fish oil " For years that was all we called it in our home...and as much as I know about the " PUFAs " it's still magic fish oil to me! Congratulations on a whole new year of learning everything that's going on in that little head of his that he can finally share! Like all of us you'll probably bite your tongue to not tell him " no " when he asks for something you really don't want him to have -or say " no " when he calls someone a bad name...you'll be too happy counting the words and in your head cheering him on! Of course like us you'll have to deal with the spoiled part if you let that go too long and like us one day you too will say " OK stop talking already and get ready! Guest guest Posted December 29, 2008 Report Share Posted December 29, 2008 Unless I'm wrong - DS -3 stands for " dear son 3 years old " and SPD/Speech delay stands for Sensory Processing Disorder/speech delay (which is the not yet officially diagnosed way of describing apraxia! And unfortionatly if the child didn't secure the apraxia diagnosis prior -probably won't now as an apraxic child on fish oils no longer fits the classic signs of apraxia) And to answer the other new member questions -Nordic Naturals makes a number of oils...the Omega 369 is the commercial line sold in stores of the same professional line not sold in stores called ProEFA. ProEFA is slighly cheaper as you get 90 capsules per bottle vs. 60 and in most cases on line for around the same price. For the person that says they are using Nordic Naturals " fish oil " that may or may not be the right formula. You want the ratio of at least what's in the ProEFA to start -and most of us find that a 2/1 ratio of ProEFA to ProEPA (2 ProEFA to 1 ProEPA) which raises the EPA a bit higher is much better than going to three ProEFA. And it is liquid with lemonade flavor. I have been giving DS 2 tblsp a say. I think the proEFA has higher counts - so I should be able to give him a little less at the same potency. (We have the orange flavor) and my Dr said to keep witht he 2 tbs it reccommends, because that is an adult dosage amount on the label. But as it was mentioned before, check with your dr to see what he/she says. I am also using flax seed. I grind up the seed and add it to our dinner meals. My son takes that better than the fish oil and I have seen a jump in his clarity of speech...
