Guest guest
Hi all, I'm new to this list and really trying to educate myself on apraxia. My daughter, who is 5, was just officially diagnosed with apraxia. We have been in speech therapy since she was 18 months and my speech therapist and schools have suspected apraxia, but it took awhile to get the official diagnosis. I'm still learning about this disorder and one of the things I've read is to have her evaluated by a pediatric neurologist. Since I already have the diagnosis, should I still see neurologist? She's made tremendous strides but, of course, we still have a long way to go. Any feedback would be great. Thanks.
Guest guest
A neurodevelopmental pediatrician would be a better bet imo. Where do you live as I am sure someone my have a name for you. Knowing it is apraxia is the start. An NDP can help guide you and can test for contributing factors. Important to get on who knows apraxia though. > > Hi all, > I'm new to this list and really trying to educate myself on apraxia. My > daughter, who is 5, was just officially diagnosed with apraxia. Guest guest
We had much more luck with a developmental pediatrician. It took months to get in, but has led to many interventions that we hadn't been trying. We have had tremendous progress over the last 8 months!!! Guest guest
My son was diagnosed by a developmental ped. It has helped to have an " official diagnosis " from an MD in order to secure appropriate services. He did a full battery of tests (dev ped), and during my son's IEP, I was able to present a report that stated my son required 1:1 speech and occupational therapy. It was just more evidence for what I was fighting for. @...: CMDurrett@...: Thu, 3 Apr 2008 13:39:41 +0000Subject: [ ] pediatric neurologist Hi all,I'm new to this list and really trying to educate myself on apraxia. Guest guest
Hi , I am also in Cleveland, Lakewood specifically, and we have had a terrible experience with Dr. a Bauer at the Clinic. She did not run any tests on Cameron at all and she said and I quote " Well read a little about PDD-NOS but not too much cause it will scare you and let me know what you think. " That's it!! No diagnosis no tests run nothing. I came back for the follow up and told her that i didn't really agree after discussing this will all of his therapists and doing extensive research. So she said oh okay and never diagnosed him! Anyway let me know if you run into any better doctors than that! What school district are you in? by the way, we have had an amazing experience at the Optimal Wellness Center in Lakewood. They specialize in health and nutrition and are all chiropractors (http://www.owcenter.com/) Best of luck! > > > > > > Hi all, > > > I'm new to this list and really trying to educate myself on > apraxia. > > My > > > daughter, who is 5, was just officially diagnosed with apraxia. > We > > have > > > been in speech therapy since she was 18 months and my speech > > therapist > > > and schools have suspected apraxia, but it took awhile to get the > > > official diagnosis. Guest guest
Hey Jeanne. I hope that you are doing well and that you are having a good Chanukah this year. I send my love to you and the boys. I was hoping to get some names from you of some pediatric neurologists. A client of mine wants to have her child tested for ADD/ADHD and oppositional disorder. She wants only the best, so I immediately thought of getting some advice from you! Any guidance at your convenience would be appreciated. Thanks so much.
