Guest guest
my son had a speech therapist who did food approximations with him and 2 other kids. Josh would atleast smell the food or touch it with his tongue. I wish we could still be in that class. **************New year...new news. Be the first to know what is making headlines. Guest guest
My son's speech therapist has been working on feeding Issues with him. I think a good part of it is oral motor strength. Some foods are too hard to chew. He also has texture issues. My son loves his his speech therapist and will try foods for her that he won't try for me. (my son will actually throw up so That makes me a little hesitant to make him try new foods. Some foods (like raw carrots) he can't actually swallow by themselves. He can't make it into a bolus. If I give it to him with a bite of cracker. The cracker helps to hold the carrot pieces together and he can then swallow it. She has worked on getting him to like a variety of dips (ranch, BBQ sauce, cheese...) because if he likes a dip he is more likely to try a new food if he knows he already likes the dip on top. I also sometimes do a bite of less preferred food then a bite of a favorite food. Praise, praise, praise. I don't know about you, but it feels like a long road to me!! Good luck!!
