Guest guest
Hi all, I am pretty new to this group. I have an almost 3 yr old son, very delayed in expressive speech,(Has 2 words) probably also behind in receptive, but I don't know as we have not been able to have him assessed yet. I started fish oils about 3-4 months ago, but then stopped and started alot for a number of reasons. Mostly because of him getting sick so much this winter and also he is a picky eater to begin with and the oils were turning him off of food altogether. I think he thought i was hiding oil in everything! Anyways, we have been back on the oils for about 3-4 weeks now, maybe a bit more, and i am having a very hard time with him. I am not sure if it is the oils or not. He is throwing tantrums over everything, and i mean everything. He is hitting now, and just being very hard and very different. I am having a hard time explaining it. Today for example. I had to take him to the doctors. We get there and he throws a fit about taking his boots off to go into the waiting room. We get past that when he sees the toys. Ok, so then we are called in and he absolutely freaks out. I am not talking a typical temper tantrum, I am talking like a panic attack, he is going to die if he doesn't get out of the doctors office kinda thing. His whole body was shaking and the works. It was absolutely awful. he did this the other day also when him and dad stopped at the store for dogfood. Wouldn't get out the truck and freaked out the whole time in the store. Like I said above, we have not been able to have him assessed yet. We have been on waiting lists for almost a year now. I hired a private slp and she does not think apraxia, although we have only seen her 3 times. He does not have all the typical signs of autism such as lining up toys, bad eye contact, repetitive behaviors, although some days I do have to admit that I suspect he is on the spectrum to a degree. I also think that maybe some sensory issues are starting to reveal themselves? I really don't know what the heck to think to tell you the truth. I am confused and scared and sad and many more things. I guess what I am asking is this, were your kids' behaviors like this because of the oils? and shouldn't it have tapered off a bit by now? It only seems to be getting worse. I am giving him one soft gel a day btw. Thanks, Ruby
Guest guest
Hi Ruby: In the past it has been common for many to report bad behaviors or behavioral changes for children when starting fish oil. I just did a subject search for ProEFA side effects and there were 45 messages about negative behavior on ProEFA. Usually the new behaviors go away after a week or two. If you stop the ProEFA, and all the bad behaviors go away would be the one way I can think of to really find out if the oils are the cause. You would at least know if it is the oils. I was reading through some of the messages and some stated lower the dose...half a capsule and work up to a whole capsule. Some also wondered about the lemon flavoring that is added to the capsules. /message/57418 Archived message about negative behaviors Here is the link so you can do more searches if you want. /msearch_adv subject: or message body: I did subject: proefa side effects. You could also substitute proefa with fish oil and EFAs, and substitute side effects with bad behavior and negative. Good luck, Tina mom to Landon 5yo > > Hi all, I am pretty new to this group.
