Guest guest
Hi everyone, I've seen so much discussion about fish oil for children with verbal apraxia and I've also done some of my own research. The only thing that I am uncertain on is what happens when they stop. So for those of you who have children who are taking fish oil supplements and it seems to help with their speech, when they go off of them does their speech go backwards again? Or do they continue to stay at the level they were during their last bout of fish oil? Thanks, ===================== Posted through Grouply, the better way to access your like this one. http://www.grouply.com/?code=post type_D
Guest guest
Hi : I think that answer depends on the individual child. My son at 2 & 3 years old would regress after a week with no fish oil. At 4, I lowered him from 6 capsules to 3 capsules without any regression in speech. Some children regress within a day or two. I also know of children that are doing well with speech and will regress if fish oil is missed for a couple of days. So I really think it depends on the child and their unique circumstances. Guest guest
Nick (3) regresses, but it's more like falling off a cliff than going downhill. Instead of slowly losing words, it took over a week of stopping the oil (I believe closer to 2) to even notice, then suddenly he started losing sounds, within a few days more he started closed-mouth sounds when he hadn't done that in months. At that point, you could remind him to open his mouth and he would. At some point, he also lost went from full sentences down to a few words. When he was " on " (in therapy or being reminded), he would still do most things properly, but his trying to communicate throughout the day suffered, and he lost some of his sounds even in therapy. He did not totally regress to where he was in Sept (when I started oils), but I'm sure he regressed to where he would've been if only in therapy without ever having oils. > > Hi everyone, > > I've seen so much discussion about fish oil for children with verbal > apraxia and I've also done some of my own research.
