Guest guest
Lola, I don't know how to add archives to a post, but go to the home page of and click on " messages " on the far left. Under " search " put in " tonal processing " . You will find some great answers there regarding loud talking. It is common and can be helped with " The Listening Program " . Janice , who posts quite regularly knows something about it. It has nothing to do with how well your child hears, but how sound is processed. Please look into it. The loud talking did not go away in my 9 year old and I wish I would have used " The Listening Program " a long time ago. Six year olds are often forgiven for talking inappropriately loud. By age 9 people expect a child to know when to hush their voice. It's worth the try! I have always assumed it was because of apraxia but don't know for sure. She doesn't notice how loud she is and I find that interesting because she always passes her hearing tests. I'd also like to hear from others. Thanks, Lola
Guest guest
My son is dx with apraxia and like your daughter can speak very loud! To the point that it hurts our ears and I can tell it irritates his peers. He tends to speak louder when he is excited........we just tell him " bring it down " or give him a signal to alert him. He too has passed hearing tests. Hildy From: Lola <lolajones@...> Subject: [ ] Re:Does anyone else have a really LOUD kid? Guest guest
My daughter talks very very low,and now that shes quite verbal at 12,she tells me she doesn't know how loud she is. She actually practices it! She has no idea if shes talking loud or soft. I wish she was a little louder, for her its poor breath support too from the hypotonia i believe. We just got the Wii speak so she can talk with kids on her Wii game, and she has to go right up to the speaker every time. Its got to be a processing problem i guess, her hearing is normal. Just letting you know since my daughter has told me after 12 years shes has no idea the loudness or in her Case the softness of her voice.
