Guest guest
Hi. My daughter will be three next month and has apraxia. We realized at 1 year that there was a problem, she wasnt walking or moving much and she wasnt saying anything. After working with a physical therapist for several months she started progressing and is now pretty well caught up physically. However, she still doesnt say anything. Ellie, my daughter, worked with 3 speech therapist over the last year with no change. We moved in October and she began working with a wonderful therapist and is finally getting somewhere. She now babbles all the time, only with B,M,and sometimes G and D. Her therapist thinks she is really close to saying something legible. It has been a long road to discovering and accepting that my daughter has a speech disorder and I definelty have my ups and downs. I am going through a really discouraged phase right now and would love if anybody would share their experience with me. I dont know what to expect in the future and would really be interested in knowing about other children that have speech apraxia.
Guest guest
Dear , Can your daughter communicate her wants and needs thru pecs or sign? While working on speech articulation, developing a functional communication can really be helpful to her and reduce any frustration along the way. PECS and/or sign, I've seen, helped children in developing speech as well. As time goes on with the help of a speech therapist, her speech will develop and she will soon find pecs or signing is more work and will use her voice. I've found this to be true with my son who used pecs. HE now can articulate I want ___ with a prompt but is doing really well. He found pecs to be a chore and is willing to use his voice now. Please concentrate on " my daughter is making progress " rather than what she is lacking. I know it's hard to do. But it just take so much energy looking at what your child lacks. I decided for myself to spend my energy looking at my son's progress. When I did that, I felt a heavy burden lift from my shoulders. It will get better! Visualize that for the future. My best wishes to you and your daughter! Marie > > Hi. My daughter will be three next month and has apraxia. Guest guest
Hi , Don't get too discouraged. We ALL have our up and down days, but mainly we just keep at it. My son was 4.5 before he said his first word(mama). Before that we didn't even have approximations. His first slp said that he would never talk. He is 8 now and has a ton of words! For us it was very soon after we started the omega's that it started to come, we were lucky. I've learned to live in the day and still get really, really excited when a new word or phrase pops up. It's hard not to be down some days but I do try to direct that energy to working with my son instead. What does the future hold?? I just look at where we are today and see how much progress we've already made that I never thought possible and know that we're already ahead of what people said he would accomplish. It's a great feeling knowing he's come this far and that whatever the future brings, we'll be ok. hth Sandy [ ] 3 Year old with apraxia Hi. My daughter will be three next month and has apraxia.
