Guest guest
ABA is not the only treatment for autism. So I disagree, treatment for Autism spectrum disorder if it is Apraxia is not harmful if it is done in the right way. There is a huge debate over this issue and I am not going to go into it in length for the sake of everyone, but there is a huge problem with people not wanting to accept that a child has autism. Some people with children that have apraxia would be insulted if you mentioned the word Autism. Children with autism can be social and smiley and great kids too, is right, use your gut instincts but don't totally refute the diagnosis of autism unless you are sure. Treatment is crucial and Autism is not a terrible word and it can be helped. **************Psssst...Have you heard the news? Guest guest
Hi I just wanted to say I do agree. I think ASD is a lot broader than is recognized. Socially apporiate is a big part of autism disagnosis and I think that doesnt mean your child has to be intraverted. I THINK my daughter my have Autism even though she is global apraxia severe verbal apraxia sensory disfunction, anxiety, hypotonic, toe walks, aggressive at time but she is social, loving often inapporiately over social blowing kiss to strangers and hugging strangers. Her IQ is low average for 5 yr but mot MR. She did not meet the DMAS test for ASD but they said they could say PDDNOS which doesnt really do much for us its like saying umm maybe,I dont know... But according to this group she is classic apraxia, I just think it's possible this is all intertwined in someway..or apraxia is the cousin of autism similar but different. She plays fairly apporiately with toys minus language, she doesnt play with kids her age.(language barrier I think!)not any stim. that I have noticed From: jennyjudy@... <jennyjudy@...> Subject: Re: [ ] Re: new to all of this, feeling lost, seeking guida... Guest guest
I am not afraid of that diagnosis at all, just afraid of not getting him the proper help for his ASD condition. If all I did was intensive speech therapy and he was on the spectrum that would be not so good for him. I have had many people you in fact say that he was probably dyspraxic and not autistic. I just want everyone to get the best treatment and earliest interventions for their child that is all. Jen **************Psssst...Have you heard the news?
