Guest guest
Hi, I think you mean " PODD's " . PODD is short for 'Pragmatic Organisation Dynamic Display by Gayle Porter. The producer is the Cerebral Palsy Education Centre. I can try and google more info for you or ask at our old Early Intervention Centre in Australia how and where to buy it. I also want to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I joined this week. My name is Doris and our daughter is 7 years old and still mainly non-verbal. was adopted from China and due to her early neglect undernourishment and lack of any stimulation (I volunteered at her orphanage while living in China so I know what she experienced) she is globally developmentally delayed. Until the age of 2 1/2 only drank milk and as it is practice at the orphanages the teat had such a large hole that the milk flowed straight into her mouth and she never learned to 'suck'. We had to puree all her food until she was five and learned to chew. We believe the root of her apraxia comes from this early trauma. We had speech therapy for 3 years in Australia and lots of other therapies and is doing very well. Last months we moved to the US on a medical visa to be able to do Neuro- reorganisation therapy with . Our speech therapist in Australia has recommended to consult a PROMPT -trained SLP here as she believed she had done as much as she could for . Now, here is my dilemma. I asked the PROMPT institute for practitioner's details here in the Portland/Oregon area. I called the Speech and Hearing Institute but they insist on two sessions of an in-depth assessment each costing $296.-. I explained that has been seeing a SLP in Australia, that we do not have insurance (we pay cash) , we need no report and that we know the reason for 's apraxia. But they won't see her unless we agree to the assessment. The cost of the neuro therapy and the trauma therapist we are seeing here is already prohibitive without insurance. I called many other SLP's but no-one even bothers to call back. Is that normal? Is some-one on the list from the Portland area? I would be very grateful for any advise regarding Speech therapists in this area ( we live in Lake Oswego) BTW, communicates with signs (only a few) and sounds and we have just started to use a AAC (Alternative Augmentative Communication devise) and since we have started the neuro-reorganisation therapy she is becoming much more verbal. Thank you all Doris Please consider the environment before printing this mail The new Internet Explorer 8 optimised for 7: Faster, Safer, Easier.
