Guest guest
Hey. My son is comletely non-verbal and 48 months old. Just today after reading The Late Talker, i purchased Nordic Natural's DHA for kids at Whole Foods and started tonight. I accidentally gave him 1 tsp instead of 1/2. I know nothing about this product and bought it based on the sales clerk's recommendation. I just joined this group today and would love feedback as you get it on the product. I am going to talk to my dev ped Oct. 7 about it. Good luck!! > > Hello, > > My wife and I recently found out about the benefits of fish oil for our > apraxic son. Guest guest
Hi there, The children's DHA is not enough (if I am correct). I have a 2yo and give her 2 ProEFA (or the Complete Omega 369...they are the same thing) and 1 ProEPA (or EPA) daily. Once we tried the ProEFA, it was easy to figure out the rest. We started with 1 capsule of the EFA/Complete Omega a day and a couple of weeks later added a 2nd cap for a total of 2 EFA/day. A few weeks after that we added the 1 capsule of ProEPA /day along with the 2 of the ProEFA. We squirt it in her milk and she's good to go! The fish oil is the best thing for our daughter since sliced bread! She has so many more word attempts now and her eye contgact and emotions are so much better. I knew she loved me before, but she would rarely look me in the eyes and would only hug me at bedtime and she was really just falling asleep on me. She is so much more affectionate now! BTW...she attempted to blow a cotton ball off my hand tonight! Pretty good for not even having candles on her bday cake a few weeks ago because she couldn't blow them out! Hope this helps! in OH [ ] Fish Oil Question Hello, My wife and I recently found out about the benefits of fish oil for our apraxic son. We bought Nordic Naturals Children's DHA for our 33 month old son. We don't know if this is insufficient or not. Our son's pediatrician is unable to determine its value and we're at a lost. Would anyone be able to refer me to some documentation or their own personal experience on what brand and dosage used to help their child? Thank you, Desperate Seeking Help for our Son
Guest guest
Lost? LOL Don't feel bad I am still confused about fish oil but regardless of me my son is progressing beyond our wildest hopes. I give my son two capsules a day of proefa and one of the proepa a day that I buy from the cherub site http://shopinserviceinc2.goestores.com but I also bought them at Whole Foods. The fish oil I use has vitamin e in it already. Did you read The Late Talker book? I recommend that book as it will answer so much. Also this group talks about everything and you can ask anything. There are many helpful people here that can probably provide much more information then me. Do you have a good speech therapist? My son loves his speech therapist and we love her! Welcome!!!!!! Guest guest
That should be fine. That actually is not too much. Some doctors recommend that amount or more. Worse case is the child may have some loose bowels for taking too much fish oil. From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Tresh Sent: Monday, September 29, 2008 6:24 PM Subject: [ ] Re: Fish Oil Question Hey. Guest guest
I started my son at 34 mo on NN Omega 3-6-9 complete. I got it at Earth Fare. I kept him on 1 capsule for a month and then started the 2nd capsule. The second capsule has made a huge difference in his temperament, attempts at words, etc. After another week or so I am going to switch him to speak. Good luck! Guest guest
My grandaughter takes hers in the morning all at the same time. That is what said she does with Tanner. Nana Barb [ ] Fish oil question My daughter has been taking proEFA since October with amazing results. I moved her up to 2 proEFA per day (soon I am going to add a proEPA on) and have been giving them to her at the same time, but something I read in a post made it sound like you should give dosages seperately. Does it matter whether you administer all the fish oil at once, or does it work better to spread them out throughout the day? Has anyone noticed a difference? Guest guest
I'm sorry I know this has been asked a dozen times and more, but my daughter is 3. I've been giving her NN Complete 3-6-9 (yes the liquid. I know some don't agree with the liquid but I do give it to 3 children so it does go rather quickly). I'd like to know if I can give her NN ProEFA in addition to the Complete? Thanks, ne
Guest guest
I have my daughter on 2 pills of nordic naturals complete omega 369. My understanding is this is the same product as Pro Efa . Now I am going to add Pro Epa. My question is what does pro-epa have that the omega 369 does not have. When I look on Nordic NAturals website it looks like they have pretty much the same formula. What is the difference? Thanks so much.
Guest guest
Tara don't feed bad -they all look the same on a quick glance! Here's the difference -the ProEFA or omega369 are Omega 3/6 formulas -meaning they have both the EPA and DHA (Omega 3s)from fish as well as the GLA (Omega 6) from borage seed oil. The ProEPA is a pure Omega 3 with just the EPA and DHA. In our group I found the formulas higher in EPA to DHA with a bit of GLA to be the best for my son and for the past decade most others found the same. If you are going to increase the Omega 3 -I found it's best not to try to raise the DHA -but to raise instead the EPA. http://www.cherab.org/information/historyEFA.html This is just approximate formulas for both -but they too are very different. I'll explain why I say approximate: Below is one capsule each per US standards -they now use another method non US method of testing that makes it hard to compare apples to apples here in the US - but the formula didn't change -just appears that way- I know -makes it more confusing! ProEFA or Omega369 DHA 100 mg EPA 150 mg GLA 30 mg ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ProEPA or EPA EPA 425 mg DHA 100 mg So as you can see -while the bottles and the capsules may appear to look alike -when you examine them -they are very different formulas! ProEFA -90 capsules per bottle Omega369 -60 capsules per bottle =====
Guest guest
When I started my son (at 32 months) on it, after three days he went from not even attempting words, to saying 10 new words a day. After about a week, he started chewing on him hands and fingers. As an infant, he was not a very mouthy baby, didn't have much use for a paci or suck his fingers or hands. I started getting nervous that maybe it was a food allergy that was making his hands itchy. He also seemed more shy and would stuff his whole hand in his mouth in public quite a bit. That lasted almost a month, during which time I cut back his gluten intake about 90%. He's not chewing on his hands so much and I'm beginning to suspect it wasn't an allergy, but an oral exploration. My son still mispronounces most of his words and many people don't understand him, but at least he is trying new words every day. At least I can talk with him. The way I see it, they used to put kids on cod liver oil all the time, this is just an updated and better version of the same thing. Liralen > > I see a lot on here about fish oil and that pro stuff. I got some but have yet to use it for . I know you normally are seeing increased speech using it. Do you think it would help him increase tongue movement and other oral issues too? is speaking good already except certain sounds like L and TH. Thanks. > > REBECCA >
