Guest guest
kate's endocrinologist suggests HGH for kate due to her extremely short stature...she has SGA (small for gestational age) as well as low tone. she is WAY below the 3rd percentile, but grows at a rate that is still on a curve, her own curve. anyone have any experience with HGH? aside from growth, i have researched the improvement in lean muscle mass and strengthening of muscles...the endocrinologist also mentioned this. any input is greatly appreciated. Guest guest
I have a 13 yr. old son with ASD (high functioning) who is also being assessed at this time for small stature. He is only 4'6 " , weighs only 62 lbs. and has always been in the 0% on the growth charts. He has always had hypotonia (low muscle tone) despite various interventions. To date, we have completed the 'growth hormone stimulation' test in Nov. (which showed a level of 8-and 10 is considered normal) and Friday he had an MRI to rule out Pituitary gland issues...So, we will probably be starting growth hormone around the 2nd week of January. I've spoken with a few people who have their kids on it and all feel that it was a good decision for their kids... My son suffers because of his small size, due to peer pressure. So, we plan to proceed with this intervention. HTH, Palos Verdes, Ca.
Guest guest
thank you...we have done all the testing as well. she is not growth hormone deficient, she just needs " catch-up " growth... kate just turned 4 and is 34 1/2 inches tall, and was 17 inches at birth...she has NEVER been a percentage on the charts. she is about the size of an average 2 year old! does your insurance cover the costs? ours doesn't, and we will appeal, but most likely have to pay for it ourselves. kate will probably start in january as well....i was told that it should have started at age 2, but we now have a better endocrinologist. let me know how it goes for you...this is uncharted territory for us!
