Guest guest
Hello everyone- I am sorry for the general mass email-- but time dictates that I need to get on and off the computer quickly. We're needing prayers for Asa-- our 4 1/2 yr old I took him into the ER yesterday (Saturday) with a suspicion that his blood sugars were high. He was showing all the typical signs for diabetes, and I had been watching him carefully all week to see if it was that or the after-effects of a cold/virus. When we got to the ER, they ran a quick check and the machine registerd " High " which meant that the levels were OVER 600 at that time. (normal levels shouldn't exceed 120 or so ideally) They took bloods, got him going on an IV and later started the insulin. He was seriously dehydrated, since the body was basically starting to eat away at his fat-- he had lost a good amount of weight extremely quickly-- etc The tests showed his levels to be at 1002 !! We were extremely blessed that he hadn't gone into a diabetic coma and that he was not passed out. They admitted him right away-- pushed the insulin all night, and throughout the day we've been trying to adjust the levels so they are acceptable-- which is a range of 80-150 for him right now. At one point he " bottomed out " at 35, and we had to increase sugars and get him eating more. I'm home for a couple of hours-hopefully to get some sleep, while Tom is at the hospital overnight. When I left, his levels were still dangerously high at 420, but he's doing quite well for how he was yesterday, and they are being diligent in getting the levels balanced out. tomorrow, Arielle and I will have to go back to the hospital so Arielle and Tom can start their " education " on how to check the blood and how to administer the insulin, and to basically become knowledgeable about all that's going on so there's someone other than myself who's able to care for his needs. Please pray for us-- Asa's alert, but still not himself. He's been having very rough time of it, and they haven't been allowing him any " in between " foods, which for a 4 yr old " grazer " has been extremely difficult. Trying to keep him occupied has been a challenge to say the least. They're telling us that they HOPE to have him home on Wednesday-- which would really be a blessing to us since that's Christmas Eve and when we would normally celebrate the holiday. I know our family would really love to be together and knowing peace etc--- Here are our areas that we need for prayers-- ~For Asa's levels to balance out and maintain the acceptable range ~For Tom, Arielle, and myself to become 100% confident in all that we have to do to take care of him once he's back home ~For the other children here at home-- this is our greatest challenge right now as we need someone OTHER than Dad and Arielle to be here, so they can be at the hospital as much as possible to get their training done. ~For us to be able to figure out a food situation-- as there's no food in the house and no one available to go shopping or cook etc. ~For Asa primarily-- to have peace and comfort in this time. He's a tough cookie, without a doubt, but is really off kilter-- please pray for the least amount of pain for his shots, and blood checks etc. ~ For us to be able to quickly find food substitutes that do NOT have harmful chemicals in them (as in most suger-free foods) due to Asa's neurologically based motor planning disorder/disability-- they are toxic to him. And overall for PEACE. Mom's exhausted to say the least, but otherwise hanging in there. More worried about the kids and the logistics of their eating, and not having any local family to help out, etc. It's all a little daunting. A quick praise in all of this-- with Asa's levels so extremely high on the onset, we were VERY BLESSED that he hadn't gone into a diabetic coma. We've been constantly seeing God's hand in all of the timing for the Dr's and specialists at the hospital, and this is all good. GOD is good! thanks for praying!
