Guest guest
Hi , I have one more thought, and this would prevent you from having to go to due process (which is not actually court, it is just before an admin law judge). If your boy has an IEP, then you could use SB10 and transfer him to another school of your choice in or out of the county or to a private school. Maddy and I went to the state capitol and testified in fron of the Senate subcommittee on Education. The bill passed by 1 vote. Anyway, he has to be in school for the oct and april head counts, so this would not help you this year, but if you can make it through this year, then you could use this option for 09/10 year. We have not used sb10 to date because there are still not enough private schools out there that are the right match. With more competition, more money, money should open to help our kids in the future. Problem is I needed a " Pro Bono " attorney because we could not afford one and I am not sure whether or not she would do this Pro Bono. Are you also saying that you went the route through the GA Advocacy Office with an attorney and that is what was so frustrating? I know I just let loose on the attorney and intern because here we are at the end of the school year practically (7 months later). And really, at this point, I feel like I am doing more for my son than the public school will ever do. (I have also been informed this by many parents of disabled children in the county.) Really, I know where this whole issue is heading (to court) and that is where we will end up anyway, as I refuse to settle for less than the best for my son. We have fought so hard on so many issues since birth that here, 5 years later, I am totaly exhausted, BUT I still have someenery left to fight. What am I fighting for? I really think I am fighting towards a lawsuit and not for my son services and that is really sad because that means that in order for him to get the " help " he truly needs, that means that I have to become a better " lay " speech therapist and simultaneous occupational therapist than I have already become. So, essentially, this means that " my " life will be he** and full of stress for some time to come. Whateer I have to do o help my son, I am committed to do it. I really feel that we should have been in court a long time ago. All of this has gone on WAY TOO LONG. > > Hi , > > I am sorry to hear about your legal issues with the school. We have been there many, many times ourselves. I have a great attorney, if you need one. is jus the best. We went the advocate route and to be honest, it was stressful and frustrating and I am not sure we did anything more for her. > > > B. Guest guest
Hi , I am so sorry to hear that your advocate dropped out of the process. We had a similar issue as well, not completely dropping out but not being available at critical times like mediation/IEP meetings etc . I wish there were more that I could do. If you are working with the lady at the GAO, then I would say you are in good hands. She trains advocates, if this is the same person. I will keep you and your son in our thought and prayers. Love, Sharon
