Guest guest
FOLO-Supporting Family Advocacy Actively supporting steps necessary to maintain or improve the health and well being of your family takes on a special urgency when your loved one is incapacitated in some way. Imagine having to orchestrate complex medication routines while recuperating or disoriented? Sometimes just making a cup of tea is overwhelming! Recall the last time you were " under the weather " . It is easy to compensate as symptoms worsen. I remember once being asked why I was walking so hunched over; to which I replied that the pain in my back seemed to be more manageable in that position. Yikes! I was literally bent over in pain, and unable to recognize my situation for myself. Thankfully observant, caring people surround me both at home and at work. I was happy to have someone who was able to give me a hand and help get me the care and attention I needed. Are you prepared to help someone who may need assistance? Being able to step forth and help facilitate basic and special care for one who is unable to do so for themselves is a noble act. The need for effective advocacy exists not only in a court of law, but also in education and in medical care. However, being an effective advocate takes a certain skill level and practice. FOLO is committed to bringing strategies and resources to those who choose to hone their advocacy skills. Individuals who are currently involved with advocating and caregiving as well as professionals who are eager to have a family-friendly resource to distribute to their clients agree that FOLO serves to enlighten and empower. Build confidence. Encourage those advocacy skills. Subscribe to and help support the free distribution of Families of Loved Ones Magazine.
