Guest guest
I can't go a day without them, otherwise BOOM, seizure land again Kathy Re: [ ] elevated pyruvate > In a message dated 5/26/01 3:30:35 PM Eastern Daylight Time, > kblanco@... writes: > > << > They do > My son has this, said to contribute to autism and seizures.. Guest guest
Also , this speaks volumes of putting the child on a no/low carbohydrate diet, or PALEO diet... Guest guest
This is helpful and yes it was ignored, among other things by the geneticist and I am furious. I have been wondering about carnitine. The elevation is in my NT kid who seems to be growing into something whereas my speech kid seems to be growing out of it. Ying and Yang. Will get carnitine checked. > > I can tell you that our neurologist Marvin Natowicz, noticed this several times in my daughter's blood work. It has to do with processing within the cells. Her blood pyruvate was only slightly elevated, and he said many doctor's would ignore this, but he felt it was note worthy. After the third elevated blood pyruvate, he started her on L-carnitine, which many of you have been discussing here. The L-carnitine helps in mitochondrial disorders, but also helps the processing of long chain fatty acids at the cellular level. > > The L-Carnitine seemed to make her much calmer, and she began to speak more clearly. > I can tell you that I tried fish oils before, and did not have good results, but once whe went on the L-Carnitine the fish oils seemed to help quite a bit. > > http://www.ucsfhealth.org/childrens/health_professionals/manuals/53_Me tabolism.pdf > > I hope this info is helpful > > Jo > > >
Guest guest
I noticed on my son's bloodwork that his pyruvate was at .21. It says normal is between .06-.18. Do you all think it's worth us taking him to a neurologist? We have been to a whole gamut of doctors - but not a neurologist yet. His pediatrician that ran the bloodwork said it was fine, but after reading this post and doing some research in the archives, am I missing something here? I am so grateful for this board. Thanks, Tara > > > > I can tell you that our neurologist Marvin Natowicz, noticed this > several times in my daughter's blood work. It has to do with > processing within the cells. Guest guest
Sure. I reccommend a neurologist. Dont be surprised if they run an MRI and find nothing though. Seems to be the trend from what I have seen. Always safeguard yourself. [ ] Re:Elevated pyruvate I noticed on my son's bloodwork that his pyruvate was at .21. It says normal is between .06-.18. Guest guest
When we received our blood work, I believe it said the normal range for blood pyruvate was .03-.08. Annie only tested at like .10,.11,.11. We do see a metabolic geneticist at the Cleveland Clinic. He did say that many doctors would ignore this, but he felt they were note worthy. Please check the range again, and verify the range. Jo
