Guest guest
Tell Trenton--Keep Tuition Affordable, Support State College Funding Dear Friend of Paterson University: I am deeply concerned that growing numbers of New Jersey's citizens are being denied a fundamental asset for success in today's world: a four-year college degree. On March 10, 2009, Governor Jon Corzine introduced an austere budget for Fiscal Year 2009-2010. It calls for a 5 percent cut in state support to public colleges and universities. This would be the seventh cut in this decade, threatening access, quality and affordability. Paterson University invites you to take action in response, through the New Jersey College Promise Action Network www.njcollegepromise.com. Under the proposed budget, appropriations to the nine state colleges and universities will be reduced by $13.8 million, with no funds provided to help institutions such as ours fulfill an additional $25 million state-mandated salary obligation to unionized employees. Enactment of this budget will mean that: State colleges and universities will have to increase tuition; Fewer students will have access to an affordable state college education at a time of great demand; and Planned campus improvements and programs that would serve students and help with jobs and economic recovery will remain on hold. College affordability and opportunity for New Jersey citizens must be safeguarded.Your voice is needed now more than ever.
