Guest guest
I love the Teach Me to Talk website (www.teachmetotalk.com). (the SLP who runs the website) has lots of good information to share and she does so on a personal level. I've actually emailed her a few times personally about my son, , and she's always offered great advice. That said, I have not tried the DVD, but it may be worth a shot. As for working with an apraxic child while you have other little ones underfoot - I find it helpful to incorporate siblings into the flash cards, oral motor exercises, etc. is 3 and his little brother, Beckett, is 20 months. I'll do two flash cards with Coop and then one with his Beckett. We also work on blowing bubbles and licking our lips a lot. It helps if Beckett has a straw or a spoon during these exercises. That way he's not pawing at my leg while I'm working with , and he doesn't feel left out either. Good luck! From: Christy <mngcircus@...> Subject: [ ] Teach Me To Talk DVD?? And newbie intro Date: Monday, February 23, 2009, 1:44 PM Hi all! My name is Christy and I'm new to this list and I actually have a few questions for you veterans! My son is 2 1/2 and was just diagnosed by an SLP with Apraxia. He doesn't say any words but he does imitate animal sounds and says things like uh oh, woah, etc. He is on day 7 of a GFCF diet and I'm waiting on my Nordic Natural supplements. He has developmental therapy one time per week and I'm waiting on his speech therapy to begin but that will only be one time every other week because that is the only availability of any of the SLP's that work with our early intervention program. I would like to start working with him more intensely on my own but I'm not sure where to start. I was checking out the Teach Me To Talk DVD and was wondering if anyone here has tried it. It seems pretty pricey at $40+ for a DVD. But it also seems like it would have a lot of good tips and information. I also am having trouble wrapping my head around squeezing in my own 'therapy sessions'. I also have a 5 year old and a 1 1/2 year old to deal with. Does anyone have any advice on working with an Apraxic child WITH other children around? I'm one of those parents that isn't much into playing with my kids. I interact with them all day long, but actually sitting down and playing, I haven't been up to par with that. I am, however, willing to change for the sake of my little boy! So, any and all advice and encouragement would be so appreciated!! Thank you! Guest guest
While not specific to apraxia www.helpmychildtalk.com has strategies to help speech and language development that you can work into your day. Hope it helps!
