Guest guest
Hi Kathleen, Your question isn't silly! I have had the same problem. It has raised my toe nails. Getting out of the pickup truck once, I fell and snagged the raised nail. It had to be removed. The removal was supposed to be permanent but it grew back deformed. I have attributed the fungus to the immune suppressive medications that I take. I have not tried to take medication for the nail fungus since I'm already on so many and I have heard that the oral medications add additional stress to the liver. It seems that I saw an ad for a topical medication but I haven't tried it. Kay Braddock Speedway German Wirehaired Pointers Paint Horses Probably a silly question All of this is relatively new to be as my diagnoses have been made progressively since May of this year, so please bear with me. Is there possibly any link to the autoimmune diseases and rampant, and untreatable nail fungus.
Guest guest
Kathleen, Actually, your question is one I planned on asking too! I have nail fungus under the two toes next to the big toe and one on each foot. After asking my internist about it, he said he could not prescribe oral medication because of my arsenal of medications for my AS. He said I could use a topical treatment; Lotrimen, but that it would most likely not correct the condition. He was right. Pat
Guest guest
Thanks - I have not yet been on immunosuppressive medication, but mine are raised and deformed as well, and I have had to have nails removed as well. I have seen the topical med as well, but have not tried it since neither of the other two did any good at all
Guest guest
Peggy: I am very glad I asked. I have it on both big toe nails, and both have at some point turned black, etc. I had to have both sides of both nails permanantly removed...ouch Also, I have it on two nails on my right hand. It does not look quite so bad, but I certainly notice it. I cannot, for example, go for a manicure or pedicure because it is too embarrassing ... It is interesting as I actually had back pain first, then the fungus, then the iritis, and the gastro issues...
Guest guest
Try Vicks Vaporub for nail fungus. Just rub it on every night in about 6 months you will have a normal nail growing. I did it and it worked. I had very severe fungus on both my big toes. Very painful with extremely thick nails. I had tried everything. Read about this in the paper and thought why not and it really worked. Joy in Dallas
Guest guest
Thanks, Joy! Odd as it sounds, I'll give it a try. Pat
Guest guest
Pat and Joy, My dr. also told me to use Vicks. He said he doesn't necessarily stick with just drugs but tries many other treatments with good success. I have nail fongus on my toe nails and a couple of fingernails too.. Just have to slow down enough to try and put the Vicks on!!! > > Odd as it sounds, I'll give it a try. > ~~~~~~ " Happiness comes of the capacity to feel deeply, to enjoy simply, to think freely, to risk life, and to be needed. Guest guest
Does everyone that gives their child ProEFA also have their child in therapy? I'm new so this probably was answered.
Guest guest
My youngest is now 5 years 3 mos. He started speech and occupational therapy at 30 mos. I started fish oils 2 months later and he has been on them ever since. I didn't start the Vitamin E until last year I think. I only used it for about a month since Vitamin World's High Gamma (equal alpha and gamma) made him emotional. It's hard to describe but he was able to " keep it together " immediately once I stopped giving it to him.) My son has had 6 SPEAKs since 12:17pm yesterday (2 at 12:17pm, 2 at 7:50pm and 2 this morning at 8:55am). All that VITAMIN E and he's not weepy or touchy or extra emotional!?! He is older. He gets less frustrated since we can understand him better. He used to bang his head on the floor and scream a lot because we couldn't understand him at all. He spoke in vowels sounds only except for " mama " , " dada " , and " nana " . I also work with him at home every single day. My son's SLP said if you don't work with your child at home then your child's progress may be much slower. > > Does everyone that gives their child ProEFA also have their child in therapy?
