I just got the news today out of the blue that all speech and OT

therapy for my apraxic child and my autistic child have been denied.

It's not terribly surprising, because here in Georgia the S-Chip

insurance program that my kids have has been basically dismantled

piece by piece (thanks to our fabulous governor, Sonny Perdue, who may

get on the ticket with McCain, so everyone can share the joy!) Sorry

about the attitude but this is really frustrating for a parent. My

kids are beautiful and brilliant, with lots of potential, but they

have obvious deficits and therapy requirements. My husband works two

jobs, we're losing our house, we pay insurance premiums, and our kids

can't have the basic therapy they need--I'm clearly ranting, here.

The question is, who lives in a state where they really like the

s-chip health insurance AND the school system? In my county, the

school therapy varies between inadequate and nonexistent. We need

good therapists and access, and good special ed programs in schools

that also do a great job with gifted education. While we're at it,

let's find a place with clean air and affordable housing, too, and

some outstanding DAN doctors. At this point I'm pretty much ready to

pick up and go wherever we can get therapy and appropriate education

for highly gifted kids with disabilities. I realize lots of the

school stuff is local, but does anyone really love their state?

(and thanks for letting me complain--I'll be nice again soon)
